James Hagens looked perfectly fine in first period as a pro for the P-Bruins and it's an extremely small sample size thus far. But it also looked to me like the right choice was made starting him in Providence rather than in Boston. Definitely looks like he's getting his bearings

The way I read this: Sweeney can call Hagens up, but he's only going to do so if Sturm is comfortable playing him. Basically, he's not going to force Sturm to play him if Sturm says "I have 12 other forwards I trust more" in the middle of a playoff race.

Don Sweeney on Hagens starting in Providence and whether he might get NHL reps this season:
"Ultimately, it'd be Marco's decision in terms of who goes in and who comes out of the lineup, and James may or may not be part of that.
"But deep down, this just gives him the opportunity. He was ready to leave school, he wanted to leave and have the opportunity to play pro, and this provides the immediate opportunity to be in the lineup and take what a lot of people think are necessary steps."

@thebalmainboy @bridgetteproulx When Sweeney says “off puck details” what he means is some arbitrary factor that only he can define so he can consistently move the goal posts. Go ask Lysell 4 years AHL or Poitras last year “quick couple week reset” never seen again.

Some takeaways from Sweeney's press conference:
-Bruins want Hagens to work on his play away from the puck in his time in Providence
-Marco Sturm will be the one to have the say if Hagens gets called up
-The current plan with Letourneau is him to go to school for a junior year at BC
-He's talked to both Gasseau and Jellvik and said, "we'll have a concrete answer in the next couple of days."
