This is AWESOME! More importantly, I believe we'll bring great insights to both clinicians and patients....improving patient lives! It's why I got into healthcare....try something so audacious. I feel like I willed my dream exit partner to reality. So cool!!!

@AndrewMayne The most compelling argument I’ve seen in favor of this was another one you made. A wedding photo is trivial to create with AI/ML, however your own wedding photo with the attached meaning is not possible to create.

My biggest criticism of the argument that AI will replace us for everything is that it ignores how much networks/community/culture matter. AI can be better than us in almost all objective measures, but culture is highly subjective. Bernard Arnault (luxury goods) is worth more than Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page because of this. Value is often a measure of cultural relevancy. This is fickle and hard to measure because it’s driven in part by the ebb and flow of culture. Even in seemingly hyper-rational situations, this applies. (Do you choose to learn Python, Go, Rust, or Haskell? There are objective reasons for both, but the influence of the most interesting person in your network won’t be zero.) We prefer menus with stories to scientifically derived meals. We’ll take a trip to New York to see a show on Broadway we could watch on TV. Parents will wait outside a store for hours to buy their child a toy. People have paid for college with pieces of cardboard printed in artificially constrained numbers. Billionaires will pay $100 million to be close to restaurants that are cumulatively worth a fraction of the cost. Brandon Sanderson had the most successful Kickstarter of all time and out-earned every publishing company because he engages with fans one-on-one and is a great writer. People like Brandon, not just the text on the page. Nobody has an emotional connection with the name of a publishing company. The success of Apple and Disney is intrinsically tied to the values of their founders. Is it a coincidence that Chik-fil-A and In-N-Out— two of the most loved fast food brands— are strongly connected to the faith and culture of their founders? Chik-fil-A is closed on Sundays— a seemingly hyper-irrational choice— yet somehow it only enhances the brand. It creates value like Shaker furniture or “authentic” ethnic food. I think in a post-singularity economy, tech will become a commodity. The real high-growth areas will be cultural— precisely because you can’t mass-produce it or scale it exponentially. Culture is another word for describing what matters to us most.

Not only did I not have a CS degree, I didn’t have ANY degree when I got the PM job at Google. Do I code? Yes. Do I design? Yes. But most importantly: I also ask 1000 questions a day and never give up, no matter what. 😃
Deedy@deedydas

Product Manager on Reddit who makes $550k/yr without an engineering degree says "you can just pick up API and basic system design from YouTube" Most tech people know how rampant this is at FAANG, but it'll never cease to the blow the minds of normal people.

As a kid, I thought Home Alone was an hour of a kid bashing bad guys. Turns out it was about 15 minutes or 10% of the total runtime #HomeAlone #Christmas holiday party trivia you can win.

@TheKelseyMcR Is it more “ask the right way” or “be insistent”? Follow up question: which of those two was the marriage proposal most like?

I married the craziest man. He's been on a hunt for a used car. Finds the perfect one in Huntley, IL. We live in NC. Gets me to agree to him booking a same-day flight. Gets to the airport and American bumped him. Negotiates a $200 flight credit. Basically pays for the flight. Gets to dealer. Car has damage they swore it didn't. Before I can say, I told you sooo, he brings them to their knees with regret, owning their f*-up, and offering to make it right by offering a deal on a better car. They also paid for his ubers back and forth to a hotel he stayed in for free with points. Now he's on his way home driving a 2022 Tesla Model Y with only 20k miles he bought for $25k, but we'll only pay $21k for after the federal rebate and get a free super charger in our garage thanks to the state power company rebate that he figured out we're eligible for. I don't know what planet he lives on, but pretty sure it's not the same as mine. If I had attempted any of this, the airline and dealer would have just said 🎻🎻🎻🎻 too bad, so sad, and then the hotel would have found some fine print reason they couldn't accept my points and charged me $400. I don't know how he does it but I'm glad I get to benefit from it.

@natedlee @elonmusk Do you have a timeline for which you think it would be a good and safe recommendation for the elderly to get a #tesla ? There is likely a critical inflection where FSD/AD goes point to point more safely.

Auto drive has serious issues. Constantly tries to take me into HOV lanes even though I have that setting turned off. Tries to do it across double lanes which would give me a ticket. It’s really confused and can’t make a safe decision when there are 2 turning lanes. Doesn’t know what to do with entrance/exits to Interstates that share a lane. Etc

@AndrewMayne Wondering if a “try to bust me” prompt along the way would have led to anything interesting. At one point the deck went out of frame, and that’s not when a move would have been most likely to have happened, but a transformer may have reacted then

@natedlee Fair enough. I’d hang up on media to grab a bear or beer with you and argue all night long. Win or lose, at least we did the thing, and I’m sure I’d be better for it

I wish everyone would get off mainstream media (EVERYONE), and get back to good old fashioned hanging out with friends and arguing about shit. Then grabbing a bear and playing ping pong or something.
