@SwytchBike - where is my order? order tracker said local centre arrival on 11/24. Support email confirmed on 12/7/22 my kit was at the local centre, Tax inv paid 12/14 - Now order tracker changed to read local centre arrival 01/10/23? - What?!? Have never gotten delivery date.

@mattblaze I think it is related to the same motivation that causes women in oppressive regimes to stone other women who are acting more free (something else I've observedbut never understood)

Anyway, I really don't understand why I should be upset or resentful if younger people have more options or an easier time than I did. I don't mind when new medicines or technologies are invented that improve people's lives, either.

I'm extremely fortunate that I managed to get my education without debt (I went to college at CUNY, where the tuition was $600/semester at the time, and I had a fellowship in grad school). I'm glad student loan debt is being forgiven for those who weren't as fortunate as I was.

About 25 years ago, when we were both at Bell Labs, I needed a specially sandboxed version of AWK for a project. I wandered over to Brian's office and asked him for advice on the code. By the time I got back to my office, he had already emailed me a fully working modified AWK.

@daveaitel Not entirely useless, but certainly not "a fix". What patches can do (with lots of dependencies on other properties of the ecosystem) is affect the timing of the attacker-defender cycle.
