Larry Doby was named skipper of the @whitesox by @Bill_Veeck on June 30, 1978, becoming only the second black to manage in #MLB history. Doby was fired at the end of the season season after finishing in 5th place with a 37-50 managerial record. #BaseballandtheLaw 635

I’ve always felt that Larry Doby was one of the most under-appreciated players in baseball history. He broke in a few months after Jackie Robinson, and dealt with many of the same challenges in the AL as Jackie did in the NL. He had a great, multi layered career in his own right.
