We are disturbed by video showing journalist @samhusseini removed from a State Dept briefing and possibly arrested. We are seeking more facts. While we know of the Biden Admin's antipathy to press freedom, arresting an accredited reporter at a briefing would be a new low.
Ryan Grim@ryangrim

Reporter @samhusseini was just physically dragged from Blinken’s briefing. “Why aren’t you at The Hague?” he asked.

The US distorted its involvement in the creation of these sites for yrs. Through our litigation we’ve obtained hundreds of records detailing the intimate role senior US officials played in facilitating these sites & their knowledge of the harms & inhumane conditions Afghans faced
The CCR is on bsky (@ccrjustice.org)@theCCR

New documents show that the U.S. government has enlisted at least 36 countries to hold tens of thousands of evacuated Afghans—many of whom are confined in what appear to be prison-like facilities where they have been experiencing human rights abuses and months in limbo.

While @POTUS is redoubling efforts to reassure Israeli leaders he is in lockstep with them as they deliberately barrel towards regional war & escalate a genocidal campaign against Palestinians, the bare minimum US Senators can do is vote to block these individual weapons sales.
CIVIC@CivCenter

NEW: @CivCenter & @FCNL lead 111 groups urging US Senators to vote for @SenSanders @JeffMerkley & @SenPeterWelch's resolutions to block major arms sales to Israel amid catastrophic civilian harm in Gaza. Enough is enough. civiliansinconflict.org/press-releases…

If you read only one thing this holiday weekend, make it this excellent piece by @BayoumiMoustafa The concluding paragraphs are particularly salient in light of the prevailing denial or minimization of anti-Palestinian racism in the United States. theguardian.com/news/article/2…

The ICJ order on its own is not operative - it is a tool for us to use. It is further arsenal, atop the mountains of evidence provided by Palestinians in Gaza, that Israel’s operation is conducted for the purpose of destroying the Palestinian people in whole or in part. #Gaza

“In addition to dropping meals, hundreds of thousands of American-made bombs and shells have been dropped on us, including the missile that killed my son Abdullah.” Must-read article by Ahmed Abu Artema, one of our clients suing Biden et al for complicity in genocide @theCCR

"We don’t need empty words of concern or cynical PR stunts like air drops or floating piers. We need the international community to impose a cease-fire on Israel and to stop the invasion of Rafah and the destruction of Gaza." —Ahmed Abu Artema bit.ly/4bNGwHf

Until 2022, Alabama slavery & involuntary servitude in prisons was still permitted under the infamous “Punishment Clause” exception in the Alabama Constitution & 13th Amendment. But still, those incarcerated by ADOC are routinely punished (or threatened) for declining to work.

We submitted a written statement to today's the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Criminal Justice and Counterterrorism, highlighting the dire need to abolish forced prison labor in America. 🧵

As Congress negotiates between bad versus worse in the supplemental, two things are clear: Militarized policies are not going anywhere and marginalized communities, both at home and abroad, remain collateral damage. My piece in @thehill thehill.com/opinion/immigr…

Historic! In our lawsuit against Biden & co., the Federal Court found that Israel (with US help) “intends to eradicate an entire people”. The pressure continues to build. We will not stop fighting. Onwards. ✊🏼

In the historic lawsuit brought by Palestinians against Biden, a U.S. federal court finds that Israel’s assault & siege on Gaza plausibly constitutes genocide and “implores” Biden admin to examine its unwavering support of Israel, determining it lacks power to resolve the case.

Biden, on the 100th day of Israel's genocidal campaign, refused to even acknowledge that Palestinians (let alone tens of thousands) were killed & injured. Today, a federal judge found a plausible case of genocide & urged Biden et. al assess their role: ccrjustice.org/home/press-cen…
