@zeromadic @kommunist_kurm @CantEverDie buying phones secondhand and clothing from thrift stores is a way for me to *save* money. but if those aren't options for you, you should still cut out products of torture.

@sairement @kommunist_kurm @CantEverDie Well true that would be nice! And I think we should all strive to minimize our consumption period. My point however is simply that it is incredibly hard (without a wealth of resources) to actually live by these standards on an individual level. There is a root cause here.

i’m not even a vegetarian, usually eat meat at least once a day, but watching people who eat meat be incredibly wrong and annoying about vegetarianism and vegetarian diets puts me on defense mode

@zeromadic @kommunist_kurm @CantEverDie you, actually, should not buy shirts or iphones from people who employ slaves. that we have multiple obligations does not undermine any of them individually

@kommunist_kurm @CantEverDie You could extrapolate this reasoning for everything we consume. Yet we all use smartphones, petrol oil, cheap clothing made in sweatshops. There is no ethical consumption.

@hfkzelda @dracuchuu you can't non-brutally end an innocent life for the sake of pleasure. every animal killed in the meat industry is killed brutally.

@sarahbeliveaux @hyperdollia the abolitionist agrees that our genders may be essentially significant (for ourselves and others) for so long as we have them, and that we ought to respect people's identities for so long as they identify with them. the respect for your identity is not contingent.

@sairement @hyperdollia The thing is that we are women/men inherently, so thusly, it doesn’t make us feel better that your respect of our identities is only for the time being. Being a woman is a core part of my identity; the reassurances ring hollow.

when bisexuals say everyones actually bisexual they generally get backlash but when nonbinary people say everyones actually nonbinary u have to take it seriously as an extremely radical political position for some reason ,,

@TheepicFrancis @hyperdollia this isn't my ideal world (i am not a gender abolitionist). the gender abolitionist, though, believes that there should be no genders tout court, not that there should be only nonbinary ones.

@sairement @hyperdollia Your ideal world is one in which anyone who isn't nonbinary either does not exist or lacks the vocabulary necessary to properly express their identity.

@TheepicFrancis @hyperdollia i agree with the last sentence of your comment. the important part, again, is just that gender abolitionists recognize that people currently have genders, and that these genders really are significant. all they're saying is that an ideal world (not the present one) is genderless.

@sairement @hyperdollia My womanhood is an innate aspect of my identity. Gender abolitionists very much reject the idea of innate genders.

@hyperdollia that people have genders out of natural necessity (if that's what you mean by 'inherent') is something that gender abolitionists would deny. do you think this means that gender abolitionists think 'everyone is nonbinary'? i'm not sure how this relates to the original statement.

@sairement ok, but when i say nonbinary here i mean agender specifically, and like,,this is still this view that gender isnt inherent to someone, which is what i mean !

@hyperdollia 'non-binary', to me, is a range of genders. a society without gender would have as many non-binary people as it has men. the important part, anyways, is that gender abolitionists aim to bring about a genderless future (!). they still agree that we are, presently (!), gendered.

@hyperdollia gender abolition is not about making people non-binary. it is about making the world such that these concepts (“woman”, “man”, “non-binary,”) refer to nothing. abolitionism about race deals with congenital features, if you prefer that example to the one w/ kings.

@hyperdollia compare this sort of statement to other movements which have sought to abolish features of the social world. “you can’t have a world without kings if we right now have kings.”

@obviouslacking appealing to the supposed ‘naturalness’ of an entirely optional (and obviously wrong) feature of human society to justify participation therein is conservatism. identical appeals are made by conservatives in the cases of patriarchy, racism, capitalism, etc.

@bloodstreamrunz @Ettta8 @serketmaxxing a socially constructed feature can be present or predetermined at birth. race properties, like being black, are examples of this. sexuality concepts can be so as well. that a feature is socially constructed does not at all entail that it is caused by any of the things you listed.

@Ettta8 @serketmaxxing and what external influences exactly would influence someone into being gay or trans exactly? is it exposure to queer people? trauma from abuse? pornography? it's easy to say it's all social while never facing the logical consequences of believing in this

@alexmalex2007 @normyist @LinkofSunshine the purples tend to be formulaic. if you know to look for a "word minus a letter" or "____ word" or "starts with word" category, it isn't impossible. still challenging. this was my score on the day with the pictured category: #911 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟦🟨🟦 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩
