The UK is pushing solar power despite having some of the lowest sunlight levels in the world. Northern Britain receives less sunshine than Canada. According to a World Bank solar resource assessment, the UK ranks among the least suitable countries for solar generation, second only to Ireland in Europe. Low sunlight means low output and greater reliance on backup power. Moreover, the UK government has approved solar geoengineering research - experiments designed to dim incoming sunlight. So the policy is this: build solar in a low sunlight country, while exploring ways to block the sun.

Average kit costs £300-£600. It will take 3-7 years to pay back that cost in energy bill reduction. BUT … the plug in solar only has a 2 year warranty at best.

They sent all the Fixed rate emails last week and put the fixed prices up 1 hour before they started sending the variable rate IOG emails out. If you try to fix now, the overnight rate is over 8p!

@AntiEVidiots I do think that EV with the fake engine noises inside for the driver is a complete waste of time. Especially the whole faking the performance drop off to emulate gear changes. Why would you want that.

This is misleading BS
Natural CO₂ sources are mostly balanced by natural absorption — the extra CO₂ from human activity is what’s building up in the atmosphere and driving warming.
CO₂ trapping heat isn’t new or debated physics, and solar changes can’t explain the rapid warming we’re seeing.
This isn’t “new evidence” — it’s recycled myths.

What a van this would be for a small local delivery business, butchers, shop etc.
100 miles range give or take?
100 miles charged at home on the new tariff is £1-£2.
100 miles of diesel is £16-£18.
That’s roughly £850 saved a year in fuel alone, and over £500 a year saved when including the VED.
Now account for time spent refuelling, fuel wasted, servicing and maintenance of a diesel van, and that £334 VED suddenly starts to look worthwhile in the right scenario for the right driver.
We need more education on total overall cost, efficiency and convenience rather than throw away comments.

I’d love to buy this, 33kWh battery makes it really quite useful but £345 tax utterly kills its appeal stone dead for me! (Price is ex vat and fees as always)

@JordanEVGuy Calm down, Gary does tend to use electric vans a fair bit but on particularly low mileages that sort of VED rate would sting. If I had a bigger driveway, I’d consider having a £20 a year van sit around most of the year for lobbing family crap about or tip runs
