Heathrow Airport has pledged to go carbon neutral by 2030, not including “emissions from planes”. BP is going carbon neutral by 2050, not including “emissions from the use of their products”. Capitalism is going to kill you. But it also thinks you’re stupid.

The unwise proscription of Palestine Action has brought us to a point in which the Government is locking up protesters without trial for months on end and refusing to acknowledge them even on the brink of death. This absurd law must be repealed and the protesters given bail.

@timfarron This is a ludicrous gloss of "political dynamics" that seems to be based on nothing but your own prejudice. Stop trying to smear the people of Birmingham.

Ayoub Khan MP was far more honest than most regarding the Maccabi Tel Aviv ban. Look at his original statement below. The ban is because of ‘the political dynamics…’ In other words, the ban is not to protect us from them, but them from us…which remains utterly shameful.

@ZackPolanski This is brilliant, Zack. And makes me think of how the Tories used to talk about the "shirker", still sleeping whilst the rest of us go out to work. That evil story was used to justify austerity the first time round — and this feels like the opposite, the hopeful riposte.

The confirmation of famine in Gaza City is utterly horrifying and wholly preventable. The Israeli government’s refusal to allow sufficient aid into Gaza has caused this man-made catastrophe. This is a moral outrage. My statement: gov.uk/government/new…

@nelsabbey @owenjonesjourno More than anything, it's just so sad that her support for this illiberal government has led her to denigrate her own political heroes. The protest ban is clearly indefensible. I've not heard a single coherent defence for proscribing Palestine Action.

@nelsabbey @owenjonesjourno Yeah, her characterisation of the Pankhursts is also lacking nuance. Emmeline and Christabel never advocated for violence against individuals and, whilst she did disagree with the arson campaign, Sylvia set up the People's Army in 1913, inspiring James Connolly to set up the ICA.

Stella, you offer a shockingly anti-feminist and anti-Black reading of history. Malcolm X didn't advocate for "violence against individuals", he advocated for self-defence. Malcolm & Martin both agreed that: "if violence is wrong at home, then it is wrong abroad".

This video is in two parts so please watch both before commenting - it sets out background to proscription of Palestine Action and tackling violence in our democracy. If you are a Walthamstow resident and want to discuss please get in touch with my office. instagram.com/reel/DNQVqZBok…

@stellacreasy @owenjonesjourno Either way, future generations will say that this government was wrong to support the genocide and that ordinary people were right to protest. The ban will be overturned eventually. Your decision is simply which side you want to be on.

@stellacreasy @owenjonesjourno I know the guilt must be a lot, Stella, but I hope it leads you to speak out against the protest ban rather than continuing to support the indefensible. The threshold for terrorism should be placed far, far higher than this - you all know that - just admit that you are wrong.

By the very commentary you make @owenjonesjourno I can tell you haven't even bothered to watch the videos as they cover the point about the suffragettes and the timing of the proscription argument pre brize norton. This isn't the first time in recent history you've done 1/3
Owen Jones@owenjonesjourno

This is utterly shameless stuff. You champion the suffragettes as heroes who did far more extreme acts than anything Palestine Action even contemplated: they planted bombs! they burned down private homes! they smashed up art galleries! Yet you voted to proscribe a movement whose declared motive is to stop what a consensus of relevant experts and organisations call a genocide - which you have refused to do! - after it THREW RED PAINT AT TWO MILITARY AIRCRAFT, voting to put it on the same legal footing as ISIS and al-Qaeda, with prison sentences of up to 14 YEARS if someone even expresses support for them. Female Labour MPs voted to do this after they did a photoshoot of themselves dressed up in the garbs of the suffragettes. You. Cannot. Make. This. Shit. Up. What is going on in your head? How do you not possibly realise how savage, how brutal the verdict of history is going to be for people like you? Your government is arming and facilitating the mass extermination of Palestinians, including tens of thousands of kids, and you voted to treat as terrorists people who object to the worst crime of our age. As a result of you - literally! - frail pensioners are being mass arrested for holding placards. How are you not overwhelmed with irrepressible shame? Do you honestly think history is going to look at the annihilation of Gaza and look kindly on MPs who voted for a law which treats 83-year old retired vicars called Sue as dangerous extremists who need to be arrested, whilst the government of the day continued to supply weapons to the state responsible for that annihilation? No, history will obviously judge this to be insane. Because it is insane. Shame. Eternal shame.

Journalists should ask: - Why, if that is true, they can't be prosecuted under criminal law? - Why Keir Starmer defended activists for doing the same? - Does she disagree with the UN human rights chief? - Will she resign if the ban is overturned? - Is this a sensible precedent?

Yvette Cooper now says that Palestine Action was banned because of "some disturbing information referring to future planning". Their excuse used to be "shady funding", but that got debunked. And so they slip and they slide, they lie and they lie.
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Yvette Cooper is asked about her decision to ban Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and she claims she received detailed security assessments & advice & is in receipt of disturbing information that the rest of us don't know about

It's a new day and I still support courageous protesters taking direct action to prevent war crimes. Peaceful protest strengthens democracy — banning protests weakens it. Free Palestine!
