@Harbpeace As I understand it she is term limited and out at the end of the year. So if she is being offered something by the DNC for this endorsement, if related to a 2028 run. If that is her ambition, the risk is the same regardless of whether Stevens wins or not. Of course we hope not.

On Gretchen Whitmer endorsing Haley Stevens: Either internal polling shows Abdul el-Sayed with a big lead so the establishment is kitchen sinking it, or internal polling shows Stevens in a comfortable spot, so Whitmer feels confident to endorse. Not a helpful analysis, I know.

I have been fairly critical of DSA and the rest of the dirtbag left on here, but if Stevens wins, I will join the DSA. I have legitimately believed in the Dem Party all my life and was literally a Biden deadender. This is the final straw for me.
Haley Stevens@HaleyforMI

I am absolutely thrilled to have Gov @GretchenWhitmer’s endorsement for U.S. Senate. She is a champion for our state, she understands the stakes of this race and why it’s so important we elect the strongest Dem in this primary, and she gets stuff done for Michigan. Let’s go win!

From an outside perspective. I love that you can join the dsa, get into inter-organizational discourse, leave 2 days later, then get interviewed about how you know better than everybody else and how the organization needs to split. Give me that confidence and I’d be unstoppable

@Mike_from_PA unfortunately Whitmer has a 52% approval rating and only a 30 something disapproval rating in Michigan

Hate to say it, but there is an alternate universe in which Big Gretch was kidnapped. I wonder how things are going there. In this one, the bigger the Gretch, the bigger the fall.

@brent858 The problem with centrists is that they never think through their positions, they only calculate them.

Centrism is when you believe homeless people should be in jail for public disorder but leaders of countries who bomb and kill women and children should simply be voted out (somrtimes)

@mattyglesias Is that what I said? No. I said that his victory will send less of a message because of his understated style. That's just a fact.

AIPAC is aware that they will be eliminated if they lose the Michigan primary. They will become completely toxic among Democrats, demonstrating that their support is now a liability rather than a benefit. AIPAC is putting its all into this race since it is their last chance.

@briebriejoy He later used political capital to get three DSA aligned candidates elected to office. Calculating risk is essential for politicians, less so for activists. And this is no dig at activists.

Zohran “lost” the fight to arrest Netanyahu, but millions more Americans understand that he’s a war criminal who should be arrested for genocide. By contrast, DSA candidates AOC and Zohran pre-endorsed Hakeem Jefferies for House leader, normalizing the virulent Zionism for which he’s most known.
Joe Wrote@joewrote

Looking back, Mamdani was correct to oppose DSA primarying Hakeem Jeffries. Attacking Democratic leadership out of the gate would've derailed his project. Instead, he focused on delivering for New York City, which gave him the political capital to elect Darializa & Claire, as well as stand up to ICE and advocate for Palestine.
