Exciting news from Matsim properties. Planning and LBC for the new roof envelope has been granted! They were so passionate about protecting the theatre they got on with key repairs months ago, being only too aware that the building wouldn’t take another wet winter #savehippodrome

Did you know Brighton Hippodrome was originally an unsuccessful ice rink, converted to a circus by architect Frank Matcham. That across it’s lifespan it staged names such as Houdini and the Beatles? That it has been on the Theatres at Risk Register since 2006? @savehippodrome

@IamMissIsabella @thevicsoc He's has no direct connection to the Hippodrome, so I hope we can count on the #LGBT Communities support in our battle to see this beautiful theatre restored and bring a major performance venue back to life in our city.

@GeckoComms @RichardHawley @HattieOtter @TabithaTeddy @SonningBear FYI the Dome is not a theatre it's a Concert Hall, and the Theatre Royal, unlike the Hippodrome, has no fly tower or rear access which you need for major shows. Both need to be retained in any new development.

@doncast01 They've certainly been active on site over the last week or so, which is a really encouraging start for sure!

They seem to have an encouraging awareness of the Hippodrome's importance in the history of the town. Their hearts appear to be in the right place. They're a local company. That's a promising start surely.

SOH would like to be optimistic about this development, but we are waiting to be convinced the Hippodrome is in much safer hands, bearing in mind Matsim Properties' apparent lack of any experience in either theatre or historic renovation. @MatsimProps brightonandhovenews.org/2020/09/18/fam…
