@sb4809 @FatBeardedChef The prices for a raw versus a cooked around here are pretty similar. It's worth it to me just to get it cooked. I do use it for quite a few things.

@1armsteve To be fair I think all of our kids came with an advantage because of this. My husband and older kids playing together with the young ones has made them better players.

@sb4809 my boy hasn't gotten on a team here yet but wants to. Mostly we play, hit, throw etc and he gets more out of that then he would a practice from these teams here (I try not to critique the coaches but I do)

gone are the days of fun. Now you have travel teams for youth. Instead of local play it's all over. Want to go to a good college team? Better pony up and play travel ball... for a decade

@emzanotti I think the problem is primarily stemming from a lack of motivation which I’m not sure you can fix…

Every few months it becomes clear that I should probably teach the internet how to make food and run a household, because it’s clearly a massive need, but I just don’t know how to get started.

I’m sure the lack of necessity is a key component in this conversation. Many a time people get creative with cheap ramen because of inability to buy expensive stuff. What you can do with a pack of cheap noodles and a chicken, it’s amazing.

@emzanotti Was I the only 12 year old watching Sara Moulton and How to Boil Water(before Sara) back in the day? Surely, there are some old videos of How to Boil Water, Alton Brown somewhere out there… what about old cookbooks?

Actually, there’s not very much that teaches people HOW to do these things. Cooking, sure, but there’s a lack of foundational knowledge that is creating a skill gap. Going on TikTok or on Food Network is useless because it’s collections of specialty recipes or high-end competition. You won’t succeed, in the kitchen or financially, if you pick 5 TikTok recipes, all of which use specialty ingredients, and try to do that as a week of cooking. It’s expensive, and you do waste a lot. What’s lacking is (1) knowing how to shop and stock a pantry, (2) knowing the Alton Brown-style scientific basics of how to cook food, even without a recipe, and (3) how to plan a weeks worth of meals so that you’re shopping efficient and not burning out. If you try to cook based on television shows, Instagram influence accounts, and Sur-La-Table retail cooking classes, you will fail. You’ll burn out. This actually isn’t as simple as you think.

Wang appeared in federal court this afternoon for her arraignment. She agreed to plead guilty and resign from public office. Wang admitted to acting as a foreign agent from at least 2020 through 2022.
