@yungblud at The Greek Friday night in LA. Non stop energy, packed crazy diverse crowd, in your face rock. This could be the guy that brings rock back to where we want it to be. Best hope for that I’ve seen in a long time. Amazing what’s going on here. This is great for rock and its future. My interview with Yungblud is now on my podcast , the @SIRIUSXM app, and video on @YouTube

@mega_meg84 Exactly. Many chefs from earlier seasons are that intense. I enjoyed them because I am also competitive 😂

This article says climate change is “believed to have played a role” in the UK's extreme heat this week. As a climate scientist, let me fact-check that. First, climate change is not a religion. No belief is required. It is about evidence. And the evidence has been crystal clear for more than two decades: climate change is making heat waves hotter, longer, more frequent and more dangerous. In fact, science has advanced far beyond saying climate change merely “played a role.” Today, we can quantify how much more likely and how much hotter climate change made a specific event. Here's the bottom line: Climate is changing. Humans are responsible. And we are experiencing the impacts now. That’s the bad news. The good news is that solutions already exist, and the majority of people care - 89%, around the world! But meaningful action depends on helping people understand not just what is happening: we need to know how it affects our lives (this heat wave being example A today) and what we can do about it. That’s the opportunity this reporting missed. bbc.com/news/articles/…

New research: we have studied the wealth of the 200 Californian billionaires and what they effectively pay in tax. From Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) to Sergei Brin and Larry Page (Alphabet), the results are edifying. 🧵 nytimes.com/interactive/20…

The economy is splitting in two. Yesterday I toured a new gym in town charging $500/month. They offer blood work, recovery, and concierge-style fitness, but most people are really paying for exclusivity. They haven’t even opened yet and they’re already 25% sold out. Later that same day, I talked to a family friend who has owned restaurant chains for 25 years. He told me they are seeing the highest rate of declined credit cards at the register they’ve ever seen. Higher than 2008.

@kkthomason It is shocking, especially for a profession that, by and large, has it extraordinarily good. We teach interested students, we choose what to study, we have smart colleagues.....

Is there another profession as self-hating as academia? It's shocking to me how many of my colleagues in the profession fall all over themselves to heap scorn on everything we do.

Reorganizing all my books at home. Jim Butcher wins the contest for most books I own by the same author. Dresden Files will always be one of my favorite book series! Codex Alera and Cinder Spires also good series by him.

As this war stumbles to a close, it is clear that the president is lost: He didn’t know what he was doing when he began it, and now he doesn’t know how to get out of it. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/05/…

There's really no point in further analyzing any Iran deal until the actual details are published, since both the Trump administration and the Iranian regime are inveterate bullshit artists.

Update: After scanning almost 23,000 dissertations, I can now say... it's REALLY bad out there. More than 1-in-5 dissertations uses AI nowadays, much of the time to do all of the writing.

I just found something more indicting than this. I'm writing a paper documenting the rise of AI in PhD dissertations. As you might predict, there's been an explosion in the use of AI to complete PhDs. It's embarrassing: PhDs will increasingly not mean 'experts' on anything.
