This is nothing short of defamation against a large section of labour class Dalit population of the city. Otteri in North Chennai and Dooming Kuppam in Loop Road have a high number of labour class population who all work as sanitary workers, fishermen, gig workers, auto drivers, tiffin vendors and in many other professions. They earn a livelihood for themselves by hard work and they will vote for whoever they want. Making a mockery of them, calling them “animal planet” for their political preferences is nothing short of malice and has to be called out.

A comparative analysis of total votes polled in previous elections shows there has been increase of around ~40 lakh votes in every assembly elections. 2021 recorded 4.63 crore votes and an addition of usual ~40 lakh votes will be around ~ 5 crore votes. Let us be very clear: We want the Women’s Reservation Bill to be implemented NOW. Tamil Nadu was among the earliest to implement reservation for women in local bodies. Our concern is with delimitation, which requires careful thought to ensure it is fair, especially for southern states. We asked for consultation, clarity, and consensus. At the very least, the Bill could have been delinked and implemented. The NDA could have delinked it. They chose not to. They could have used this time to consult states on delimitation. They chose not to. They could have addressed these concerns in the Bill. They chose not to. This is not justice. This is not intent. This is optics. Women in Tamil Nadu see through this. Women across India are not a vote bank. They are watching. The truth is simple: the BJP could have delivered. The Women’s Reservation Bill never failed. It was passed in 2023 with support across the political spectrum. So let’s be clear, the issue is not the Bill. The issue is the intent behind its implementation. What we saw in the last two days was a calculated attempt to reshape India’s political landscape by using women’s reservation as a shield, while quietly sidelining OBCs, SCs, STs, and religious minorities. If the intent was truly to empower women, the government had a simple option. Allocate 33% seats within the existing 543 seats in Parliament. It could be done next week. And it would have widespread support. But that’s not the path being chosen. Because this was never just about women’s empowerment. It is being used as a tool to redraw representation, selectively, strategically. And the timing raises even more questions. At a moment when skeletons are falling off Modi's cupboard, projecting oneself as a champion of women becomes a convenient narrative. But narratives don’t replace action. If empowerment was the goal, implementation would be immediate and straightforward. Delays, conditions, and structural changes point to something else. India deserves clarity, not camouflage.
