My first postdoc paper! Reviewing the latest single-cell discoveries from the hypothalamus and our ongoing efforts to understand such a complex and important brain region 🧠🧬

Delighted to share our open-access review with @sciencesheri & @GilesYeo on hypothalamic feeding circuits—how single-cell, spatial and 3D atlases link cellular identity to function. @IMS_MRL #hypothalamus #singlecell link.springer.com/article/10.100…

This was the first experiment I designed during my PhD and led to my most surprising bit of data so it’ll always have a special place in my heart 🩷

It took me SEVEN years to figure out that you can save a ggplot as a vectorized .svg file ggsave("file.svg"). The svg file can be opened on powerpoint and it will be completely vectorized, even text are still recognized as text boxes! No more recreating plots on illustrator!!!!!

WE WON! This week, over 2000 Penn grad workers cast ballots. After eligible votes were tallied, the final count was 1807 to 97. It's official. The majority of eligible voters turned out to the polls. Penn graduate workers have resoundingly declared: WE WANT A UNION AT PENN!

@brandon_logeman @CellGenomics The few papers on Faim2 KO mice were focused on neuro and immune phenotypes and while one reported a trend of increased fat content, none showed significant differences in body weight. I’d love to see what happens if they’re offered a high fat diet!

@sciencesheri @CellGenomics The change in cell proportions during differentiation is interesting, especially given FAIM2's role in apoptosis. Do you know what the phenotype of a FAIM2 KO mouse looks like?

Our hypothesis is that FAIM2 is required for normal appetite-suppressing neuron development/survival during childhood and decreased FAIM2 contributes to increased obesity risk at a young age (3/4)

👇Our new findings out in @NatureGenet today, where we report 2 new genes linked to adult-onset obesity. In particular, variation in Bassoon results in the largest effect on body-weight seen at the population level to date! #genetics #obesity #obesityisnotachoice
IMS Epidemiology, University of Cambridge@imsepidemiology

Rare gene variants identified by @ZhaoDylan and @The_MRC colleagues have the largest impacts on obesity risk discovered to date. The BSN & APBA1 variants are among the first for which increased risk of obesity isn't observed until adulthood. mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/blog/2024/04/0… 🧵(1/6)
