“The energy crisis is a humanitarian crisis.” - @scottcraig, Senior Media Officer, IFRC As attacks on Ukraine’s power grid leave millions in the cold and dark, health and mental health needs are skyrocketing. Throught @IFRC-supported resilience hubs, generators, and humanitarian aid, communities are finding ways to cope, but funding is running out. Four years in, people need the world’s support more than ever.

Arriving in Kyiv after a 2.5-day journey across icy roads, we’re witnessing firsthand how damage to energy infrastructure has turned into a humanitarian crisis. With much of the city in darkness and winter temperatures biting, @IFRC and @RedCrossUkraine teams continue to support communities in need. More updates soon from @scottcraig

Another cold morning in Kyiv without electricity & minimal heating. At least water is back to boil on gas cooker for coffee & washing. And a battery pack to power a lamp.. The plight of countless civilians in Kyiv & across 🇺🇦

Families in Gaza are enduring widespread displacement and struggling simply to survive. Food, clean water, and medical aid are barely reaching those in need. Gaza’s health system has collapsed due to relentless attacks impacting medical facilities and severe shortages of fuel, medical supplies, and essential medications. Any further displacement or intensification of hostilities will only deepen an already dire humanitarian situation, putting people’s lives and dignity at even greater risk. Once again, we reiterate our call for full and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance. Aid must be guaranteed and delivered at scale to meet the overwhelming needs. Humanity must prevail.

This wasn’t an easy conversation - but it’s one we need to hear. I spoke with @MeyRaficSayegh about the devastating situation in Gaza, and the heartbreaking loss of yet another brave @PalestineRCS colleague. #IFRCSpaces #Gaza #Humanitarian

🔴 Omar Islam served the @PalestineRCS for 25 years. He was trying to protect and save lives. Instead, he was killed while on duty attempting to deliver some hope. 30 of his PRCS colleagues have also been killed since 2023 in Gaza and the West Bank. Our teams are exhausted, hungry, grieving, and still risking their lives to save others. They need protection. They need access. They need the world to care. #NotATarget 🎙️@MeyRaficSayegh

Just days after it was hit a first time, killing Omar Isleem, the Palestine Red Crescent Society has reported that their headquarters in Khan Younis has again been hit. An artillery shell has struck its 8th floor. So far - thankfully - there are no reports of injuries. But, again, this must stop. Humanitarian facilities are protected under International Humanitarian Law. Just like aid workers, their buildings should never be a target. #ProtectHumanity

It's been 100 days since the devastating earthquakes in Myanmar. But the next 100 days will be critical to help people move from survival mode to living. Support for Myanmar's people is still desperately needed, despite other global challenges: ifrc.org/article/wake-m…

Deeply saddened to learn the deaths of three more members of the Iranian Red Crescent while carrying out their humanitarian mission. Since the escalation began on 13 June, four colleagues from the Iranian Red Crescent Society @Iran_RCS have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. On behalf of the @IFRC, I wish to express our deepest condolences for these devastating losses. Our hearts go out to their families, loved ones, and colleagues @Iran_RCS during this difficult time. We urgently reiterate our call for the respect and protection of all humanitarian workers.

It’s a nightmare that worsens every day.” — @TDellaLonga, @IFRC spokesperson speaking to @AJEnglish Aid must enter into the Gaza Strip. Safe and unhindered access must be guaranteed. "We don't train our people to go and die. We train them to save lives. And this is what the Palestine Red Crescent society has been trying to do all this time." Hear directly from Dr. Younis Al-Khatib, President of the @PalestineRCS, as he calls for urgent humanitarian access.

Our aid workers were killed and thrown into a mass grave in Gaza. Our staff’s red uniforms should have protected them. Instead they became their death shrouds. This should never happen again. For the sake of humanity. My op-ed in @guardian: bit.ly/3YiQZpA

🚨 “Last Saturday, we witnessed one of the darkest moments yet in a conflict that has shocked our common humanity to the core.” – Dr. Younis Alkhatib, PRCS President, at the UN Security Council. A mass grave was uncovered—15 first responders were killed and buried. Among them were 8 PRCS paramedics, 6 civil defense members, and 1 UN officer. Their only mission was to save lives. One medic, Asad Al-Nasasra, remains missing. “The voices of Mostafa, Ezzedine, Saleh, Refaat, Mohammed Bahloul, Mohammed Al Heila, Ashraf, and Raed are calling for justice. Can you hear them?” #NotATarget #Gaza #UNSecurityCouncil
