Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) appears to throw some rare shade at the Trump admin today over its continued prosecution of crypto software developers. “Frankly I assumed that would go away when you had an admistration coming in that was crypto friendly,” Davidson said onstage at the DC Blockchain Summit. Last week, the Trump DOJ filed to retry Roman Storm, the creator of Ethereum privacy software. Storm was convicted of operating an illegal money transmitter last year. The jury hung on two other counts, which the Trump DOJ now wants a retrial on. The Trump DOJ also extracted guilty pleas from two Bitcoin privacy software developers late last year, who are currently serving federal prison sentences. President Trump told me in December he would "look at" pardons for the developers of the software, Samourai Wallet. But none have since materialized. The Trump admin previously signaled it would refrain from continuing such Biden-era criminal cases against decentralized software developers.
