When all the alarms are being sounded, none of the alarms are being sounded, potential for action turns to inaction, concern to apathy. This is the legacy of social media. The challenge of the young will be to have the courage to triage and focus on the most dangerous concerns.

@JoshThomasRepEX These changes allow for teams to rest hurt players throughout the year without fear of losing their season. No more risking starting qb's with "neck injuries" and torn up shoulders. Teams will enter the playoffs healthier and more competitive. That's not an unreasonable goal #CFL

@JoshThomasRepEX You overvalue the regular season as it stands now. Fans will tell you the first 6 games are non-critical, some say the first 9. And in the back half, the last 3 to 4 games have some teams already rebuilding. So you're getting all "end of days" over 5 weeks after labour day. #CFL

I simply don't understand how football fans aren't diagusted by this. 18 meaningless seeding games. Send your starters to Cancun, who cares, everybody gets a participation berth in the Kumbayah CFL. Playoffs need not be earned. A glorified 18 week pre season. disgusting. 🤢🤮
Paul Woods@pxw13

I'm much more strongly in favour of the rule changes announced last fall and the format changes announced this week than Ravi is, but this is a good thread that explains why even someone with some reservations is willing to wait and see rather than whine and complain.

@jamienye I just don't get the hate, 8/9 vs 6/9 is a nothing burger. Player safety will be better. 2nd team development will be better. Teams will enter the playoffs healthier, more competitive and deeper. These are long standing problems that many have called for to be fixed. #CFL

I can hate 8 of 9 teams making CFL Playoffs and also see all the things the league is doing to appeal for increased revenue and more markets. Less cost to retrofit stadiums More home playoff dates for teams More ad revenue for television provider More TV revenue for teams =

@CoachHiggs12 @CFL_News 100%, how many years have we seen teams turn a season around in the back half and just miss the playoffs. The fan base wishing the season was 2 games longer. Those stories will now have their chance to be told. And there wont ever be 3 teams rebuilding with 4 weeks to go #CFL

If the 8th out of 9 (teams in the CFL) playoff EARNERS may be playing the best football at the time @CFL_News & make a run…what are you worried about? More games & more opportunities imo is better for the league, players, & fans! Get over it & make your statement! LFG! COMPETE!

@FraserPxP @jphayman I mean maybe, I really think teams being able to rest their hurt players without fear of losing their season is big. If I never have to see a half-concussed qb trot out on the field to try and win game again it's probably worth the 8/9 getting in. #CFL

@jphayman I don’t hate the new system. I should clarify that. I HATE 8/9 getting in. That’s what I think has a chance to legitimately damage attendance, growth and viewership

lol. Okay there bahd. Regular season games mean nothing. Where’s the motivation to tune in? What happens when someone starts 5-0 and clinches a playoff spot before Canada Day? Fans will get past; by ignoring CFL games and tuning into sports where the games mean something

@BobIrvingCJOB It will be better for player safety, 2nd string player development, keeping more fanbases invested deeper into the season/playoffs. And teams can game it to enter the playoffs as healthy and competitive as possible. But it may cause a drop in some game attendance. #CFL

The CFL’s 8 of 9 playoff format is brutally flawed from a perception point of view. No dispute there. But my unconditional love for this great Cdn game causes me to say “let’s give it a chance.” Maybe it will drive interest as teams jockey for a favourable seeding. Glass 1/2 full

@JoshThomasRepEX So 6/9 good, but 8/9 is a bridge too far. What type of fan is going to game 2 of the #CFL season thinking "I'm only here because of the ramifications this game has on the playoffs". Not to see the team or enjoy the sport. Do these people even exist? Do we have to listen to them?

You don't get it dude. They have already done that in our eyes. Whatever an 18 week round robin with 8 of 9 teams making it is, it is not professional football, and it is not the CFL. Fold it. Don't. We don't care anymore. Im not sticking around for this meaningless reg season.
Ravi@ravira

Now we want to fold the CFL?

@hrabapguy @JasonGregor It really depends on what your goal is. If it is to make every game an event and important, this is a bad idea. If the goal is to give teams the chance to rest hurt players, develop 2nd lvl talent, enter the playoffs as healthy and competitive as possible. This model works. #CFL

@JasonGregor The fact that this really diminishes the importance of the regular season is why this is a terrible idea. Of course if you're a fan of a CFL team that has missed the playoffs for five straight seasons, it's easy to see why you're on board with this change.

Big fan of the new CFL playoff format starting in 2027. There will be more playoff games. Top two teams in each division will play and winner moves to 3rd round. Loser plays in second round. And play in games with seeds 5 v. 8 and 6. v. 7. Winners move to 2nd round to play the losers of 1/2 matchup. Also season will start in late May and end November 7th.

@PeterDyakowski With an easier path to the dance, maybe we wont see half-broken qbs rolled out in a mid-august game. Teams can actually develop their 2nd level talent in games. And teams should be able to enter the playoffs healthier. From a player safety perspective alone this makes sense. #CFL

Stewart Johnston's basic premise for all that he does is that CFL fans will "get past it". What if many eventually don't? His gambling with the heritage which was entrusted to him as Commissioner is incredibly reckless. Limited upside, massive downside risk. No thank you!

@GreenZoneSK Is this not just a modified page playoff system from curling? All good, rename it the "Scott tournament of balls" and let's go. In all honesty, if you're trying to keep more fanbases engaged deeper into the season this will do it, but reg season game attendance may suffer #CFL.

@jamienye I agree, it's good they are holding to a higher standard. It also encourages other teams to do the same. I do think it makes the CFLPA look weak. I assume this ruling aligns with the CBA? If so, and say all teams follow a higher standard, then this part of the CBA is irrelevant.

@sdk928 @BrittonGray The only home and home should be with Winnipeg. Ridiculous that they would have a home and home with an eastern team. That's just lazy scheduling from the interns that the league employs.

@Tylermcivor5 @BrittonGray With a chance to win back to back, they had to sign him. Teams don't develop Qb's. You just throw backups at the wall and hope one sticks. If it doesn't work, you lose, and pay way too much for a qb you cant afford to protect in order to playcate the fans. Rinse & repeat. #CFL

The Harris signing was a big domino to fall for the #Riders as O'Day now knows how much he will be paying QB1 as well as having a great recruiter to help bring back other Free Agents. Lots of work to be done but this is a big one. #CFL

@Darren_Dreher Will be interesting to see how a Grey Cup win affects his mentality. Maybe him and the oc will be a bit more free to get creative and go after more explosive plays. Next priority should be to keep that oline together. #Riders #CFL

@Taylor_Shire If Harris hangs it up or goes elsewhere, the first call has to be to Bo. If the #Riders can keep the oline together, Bo isn't going to find better protection or a better shot at the Cup. Sign him for 2 years and try to get that Grey Cup at home in 27. #CFL

Securing a starting quarterback is at the top of the Roughriders' off-season task list. Trevor Harris is the obvious answer but they'll still need to lock up players behind him. ⬇️Here are the potential QB options for the #Riders in 2026: leaderpost.com/sports/footbal…
