This is for everyone annoyed last week by @business and @elerianm circulating stale NDFI data in dollars. Notice the denominator.

John Ternus, the new CEO of Apple, has been with the company for 25 years. His only non-Apple job was four years in the late 90s at Virtual Research, a tiny Virtual Reality HMD outfit. From what I can tell, he was the lead mechanical engineer on the V8 I obtained when I was 16!

Mr Pope, the almighty helps those who help themselves. The real question is what the global south did with the trillions we spent on them. We should have spent just a fraction of that money on them, mostly fighting commies and ensuring property rights; that’d fix 98% of issues.
CALL TO ACTIVISM@CalltoActivism

Wow. The Pope was just asked his stance on migration. His answer is amazing: “I would change the question: what is the global North doing to help the global South in its situation that forces them to migrate.”

@mmyoung9 @FDICgov @FDIC_OIG What good are private assets if you have to mark them properly? 😂 SSFA RWs based on DQs, but I’m sure even that can be gamed. Still think more disclosure here is needed.

@SEC_digger @FDICgov @FDIC_OIG Assumes that the underlying illiquid assets are marked correctly. Are they level 3 assets? Will banks certify the accuracy of the third party asset marks?

Good call out by the @FDICgov @FDIC_OIG here. 100% agree. That said, they don't have good visibility of where advance rates/senior attachment points are at any moment. Theoretically, they can get as high as 87.5% at origination. All supervisors can do rn is watch to see if SSFA risk weights start to trend above the floor. Think the regulators should consider adding advance rates and reference pool dq (W) to the call report to get a better risk picture, especially if they plan on dropping the floor to 15%.

2026 FDIC Risk Review fdic.gov/analysis/2026-… A striking chart, although also note this on the next page: "Supervisory observations reflect strong historical performance and more favorable credit ratings for bank loans to NDFIs compared to traditional commercial loans."

I urge all of the bank nerds to read $unib 8k. I have never read anything this but I fully respect this ceo. He speaks about being long massive $kre puts. He goes on to speak about concerns of 1 bank that could disrupt MI banking if it were to fail. I am stumped! $flg? Any clues?

So, those private credit loans by banks that the media has worried about? They are essentially the AAA tranche of a CLOs, except banks have strings to pull and no gameable "OC" tests are performed by a CLO manager.

@tyillc I actually support the regulators' move towards a focus on financial risk. Just don't think @SecScottBessent and Miki Bowman realize that lowering the SSFA/SEC-SA floor is only going to push more lending out of the regulated system towards NDFIs.

"Don't have good visibility" = due to the opacity of Private Credit, no idea if banks are going to lose a lot of money ...
