@SatiiX @Skillful__ @opinali Because it wasn't path traced, if it was it would do it. Just see some path traced comparisons and you will see how some materials behave differently when ambient sky light and color is traced in the image

Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

@skyrise77 Isn't this just a clarification on what a tax credit is? I wonder what the rules process for that culture grant was though. I know some countries have a very strict "promote our culture and values" aspect to that.

As an Italian game dev studio, this is basically wrong and needs A LOT of context: - Tax Credits, government, nationwide and regional grants, government guaranteed loans are a staple to support video game projects and strong incentives all over the world. In Italy we actually have very limited support (basically only a 12Mil€ Tax Credit per year): compared to other countries (UK, Canada, Germany, France etc...), it's basically peanuts. - Governments all over the world adopt this kind of incentives to both foster local talents and to attract external teams and investors: Canada for example basically built the local game industry around strong incentives, and is now a powerhouse. - A Tax Credit is not direct 'funding'. It helps you lower costs, but you have to have and spend the money first to get it. You use your credit to compensate taxes, but you have to spend money first. In this case, it's a 25% Tax Credit: you spend 1Mln€, you can now compensate 250k€ of taxes. Basically: you already need to have money. - Funding from the project came 100% from Dear Villagers: the Tax Credit is a nice bonus since it substantially lower your costs or can help getting a publisher on board but... yeah, you need to be already funded. - This is in NO WAY tied to 'DEI' or any kind of propaganda: any kind of video game made in Italy get access to the Tax Credit. The project list is public, it's very transparent and everyone can take a look: racing games from Milestone, the new Carmageddon from 34BigThings, Enotria, Soulstice, Star Wars and Mario + Rabbids from Ubi, Terminator from Nacon... just to give you some examples. On our own, we got it with On Your Tail, that you can define as a 'furry game', and with a 'very hot' upcoming visual novel for example... So yeah... while it may sound like a huge conspiracy it's just pretty much standard game industry practice (government support to strengthen the local industry), common all over the world and not tied to any kind of propaganda, DEI or agenda: it's just business.

🚨BREAKING SMASH JT EXCLUSIVE🚨 I've discovered where the funding for 1348: Ex Voto actually came from… and it’s WAY worse than we thought. After digging into Italian public financial records, I found out that the developer Sedleo SRL received €650,131 in government tax credits plus another €6,000 in grants from the Italian Ministry of Culture between 2021 and 2024. That's $745,563.07 in USD for those counting. Yes. This game was heavily funded w/taxpayer money to once again, push propaganda for the state. The justification? The Italian government’s cultural commission officially classified the game as a “work of cultural value.” Let that sink in. Medieval Lesbians to push an LGBTQ+ Agenda once again. So this project wasn’t just a private studio making a risky or stupid 'creative' bet... It was subsidized by the state, using a MASSIVE cultural grant program designed to promote media that supposedly represents Italian heritage and culture. And the receipts exist. The funding appears in Italy’s Registro Nazionale degli Aiuti di Stato, the national transparency database where every government subsidy to companies HAVE TO BE legally be recorded. In total the public support tied to this project is €656,131 (around $750k USD). WTAF!? That number is important because the program only covers about 25% of eligible development costs, meaning the total production budget for the game was likely several million euros. Which means taxpayers helped bankroll the development of this game under the justification that it contributes to “culture.” I want to thank an anonymous tipster who pointed me right direction and find the registry records. Everything referenced here is public information. My tipster is in Italy, and many of these Italian websites have some... hurtles to jump through for foreigners to view. This is a pretty wild discovery because it shows that the project didn’t just 'appear' out of nowhere. It was approved, subsidized, and backed by a government cultural funding program. And if this is where the funding trail leads… there most likely will be EVEN MORE behind the scenes.

@KuroSekaiAnime in general i can’t agree with this. the sentiment is good but in the case of snake eater for example, what is the point of delta existing? every bit of content is exactly the same as the og, but the og is already very accessible. all the remake does is compromise the art style

@jinceru the jin stance-looping stuff is unpleasant to deal with, sure, but it's not like this video really proves anything about "averages". the paul was randomly swaying so got clipped twice. you did two slash kicks, one connected because of the swaying, one re-aligned because of timing

@AnAverageGamerX Its not unreal engine, its devs getting lazy with development and no longer wanting to go through the process of making beautifully baked lighting. They'd rather just tell you to turn on raytracing while ignoring the fact it cuts your fps in half.

Friendly Fire: F-14 vs F-4 😵‍💫😵‍💫 "On September 22, 1987, during NATO Exercise Display Determination 87 over the Mediterranean, a U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat from VF-74 aboard the USS Saratoga accidentally shot down a U.S. Air Force RF-4C Phantom II The RF-4C, callsign "Vodka 51," was on a simulated reconnaissance mission, attempting to locate and photograph the carrier as part of the "red air" aggressor role. The F-14 pilot, Lt. Timothy Dorsey, was vectored to intercept what he believed to be a hostile contact. Amid confusion over radio communications—including an exercise clearance of "Red and free on your contact" (intended for simulated engagement)—and misinterpretation of authorization, he fired a live AIM-9 Sidewinder missile instead of treating it as a training scenario. The missile struck the RF-4C, which broke apart. Both crew members—Capt. Michael Ross (pilot) and 1st Lt. Randy Sprouse (WSO)—successfully ejected and were quickly recovered by Saratoga's forces, though they sustained injuries from the violent ejection and descent. Official Navy findings described the act as deliberate but the result of poor judgment, lack of proper decision-making, and mechanical response under pressure. Lt. Dorsey was grounded and never flew operationally again"

@SebAaltonen @pairofducks @henningsanden yes, gta has a lot of assets, sure, but the point here is that the pole having a nice roughness texture is entirely unremarkable, even if it is nicely done and looks quite hi-res, and you'll see grunge like this on every single asset in every single game in the past 15 years

@SebAaltonen @pairofducks @henningsanden this is nonsense. it's a cylinder that takes five seconds to unwrap and ten minutes to put in substance painter, make it metal, and apply a couple of grunge maps to the roughness channel. literally every game with realistic PBR materials is doing this for every asset

@pairofducks @henningsanden Sure they can use texture packs, but artists have to spend the time UV mapping those textures. Maybe they map cleanly, maybe they don't and you spend extra time. You also have to check how it works with LODs. Quality standards are very high in this project.

@seeeeaann @SuperAkouma You have to be very careful with walking and it matters what character you are playing as well as distance too it's not that simple. That walking stuff only works if someone just auto pilots the same options over and over there are some that won't work on.
