.@SenMarkey: Trump’s picture should be on every gas pump in America — his little 'detour' is costing Americans a buck more a gallon.

For weeks I have worked alongside my fellow Democrats to fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and more. I was clear we could do that without sending another penny to ICE. Finally in the dead of night, Republicans agreed.

We kept our promise: not another dime to ICE while this lawlessness continues.

Let’s be clear: Republicans have voted against Democrats’ proposals to pay TSA agents and fund FEMA and the Coast Guard 14 times. They control the Senate, the House and the White House—and have had every opportunity to end the pain of this shutdown. Instead, they chose to punish thousands of hardworking Americans—and the travelling public—for weeks for the sins of Trump’s lawless agents. That is unconscionable.   Moving forward, Democrats will not stop pushing until we deliver the ICE and Border Patrol reforms that the American people deserve.

In the wee hours of this morning, “Senate Republicans accepted what Democrats have been offering for weeks.” Obviously, the responsibility for the long intervening shutdown lies with Trump Republicans. Now the Republican House has the ball.

For over a month, Democrats fought to pay TSA, FEMA & Coast Guard workers. Republicans blocked every attempt — until airports descended into chaos. This deal doesn't go far enough, but it ensures federal workers get paid and airports stay open — without any funds for ICE or CBP. I will not back down until we get accountability and an overhaul of leadership and operations at DHS.  Read my full statement ⬇️

Democrats said no more money for Trump’s ICE to keep terrorizing our communities and murdering people on the streets, and we won one for the American people. This is a huge first step to reining in Trump’s personal gestapo.
