This paper suggests by adding a Guide model that scores generated subproblems for relevance and cleanliness, the guide will keep self-play aligned with useful intermediate steps. This keeps the improvements for training much longer than RL, and a 7B model after enough self-play can beat a 671B model's pass@4.
