@SomeSymbiont @ptouch20 You are not good at language communication. Leave it to the pros and do something else

@ptouch20 @furansu_des Ok, so you don't think information and language compression is beneficial to interstellar communication?

People used to condense knowledge into paragraphs, and write books or articles. Poetry—with our without rhyme—has always existed, mind you. Free verse poetry is no stranger to any English 101 student. The greatest measure of intelligence is the ability to state something simply, and correctly. Arguably, poetically. We live in the age of intellectual compression, and it makes us light enough to operate coherently amongst the stars. If you have learned to condense an idea that could be a paragraph into a sentence, you break it up so people can absorb it. The physical separation means it's a pause, and this is how short form online discourse has worked for all 30 years I've been online—from chat rooms to forums, and social media. Welcome to the free verse club.

@YourFiendTina You should listen to Belanova - Cocktail. Not shibuya kei but it’s a really nice groovy album, and the vocals are really good too!!

Actually that's a lie, and you know it. Your tweet had none of that additional context which is a fail in Speech Writing 101 as it relates to the Communication Process Model if that was even your goal. It wasn't. Your entire tweet is also an example of why that writing style is superior on this platform. "I don't like freestyle prose and poetry on X." One sentence, an opinion. Yours. Probably would have gotten more (and more positive) engagement. People would have asked what that was, and you as a writer and editor would have been able to get all kinds of interaction. If people cared what you actually thought about it, anyway. You were rightly called out sir, and have displayed no integrity. At the very least, you didn't know. You could just say that. Any editor, writer or English major worth their salt would have read that tweet and said the same about the same, stop lying. The tweet was meant to be abrasive and arrogant, it was, but it was also fallacious and lacking demonstration of basic writing knowledge. It's akin to a mathematician posting that they don't understand why people use accepted constants instead of proofing them out every time. You mentioned communication itself as the subject exactly zero times in the tweet, not even implied in the original. The whole reason people do use it, including yourself, is because it aids communication just like accepted constants aid math. If I had an opinion I'd posit you were just trying to reignite the anti-emdash trend with a new face for engagement. Interesting you probably took Speech Writing and missed the entire point of the class. Should have listened, would have had more success. If you want some pointers on Communication I can come up with a price.

Why do people write tweets like this? Where every sentence gets a new line. Sometimes a line might have two sentences. Like this one. But generally speaking, every sentence has a new line, making a tweet look like a long block of text that no one reads. Worse still, such tweets are often repetitive and winding, hammering on the same point over and over again. The writing is often very bad.

Unpopular opinion: historic preservation as we know it should be scrapped entirely, and cities should be required to acquire properties they wish to preserve at full market value through eminent domain (or otherwise compensate the owner). Landmarking abuse is rampant in CA.

BREAKING: Los Angeles approved a couple's permits to redevelop a deteriorating home where Marilyn Monroe once lived— then revoked them a day later, declared the property a historic monument, and stuck the owners with the bill. PLF joined the federal suit to stop it.
