Hey @BrendanEich any way Brave could somehow implement "disable passkeys"? They are the single most annoying innovation in web authentication and I would like websites to stop asking me to auth using them (similar to how notifications and location sharing can be toggled off)

Hi @BrendanEich, with the latest update of Brave, my YouTube background playback for my Motorola Android 14 phone is no longer working, I've reached out to Brave senior engineer @SergZh_ who previous fixed this issue after a previous update, but maybe he is busy. Please help

@BrendanEich @skuteli Could you check if you have Brave Rewards enabled? It's under Settings -> Brave Rewards. Websites could also bring notifications if you allowed them to notify you. It would be cool if you could show an example of the notification.

@skuteli Rewards is off by default. Is it possible you installed an impostor-browser that flew under our brand in the Play Store? Cc: @sergzh_

Turning non-deterministic, hallucinating LLMs, as the basis of so-called agentic browser AI, *on by default* without explicit user consent, is against Brave's user-first principles. It may be that we are alone in taking this position on principle. Re: theverge.com/tech/845216/mo…,

@ErisButRacist @brave @ShyOwl888 That's the plan. You have to read into the X thread to find the link to it, but please see the blog post at brave.com/blog/ai-browsi…, specifically this part: "Like all AI features in Brave, AI browsing is completely optional...".

@BrendanEich @eliethesaiyan @fanboynz desktop version of prime video works correct on my Pixel 9. Do you see the screen cut off in landscape view as well? Does it happen when you actually watch a video or on titles selection as well? We likely could fix a mobile version of website(by intercepting an Intent)

Don’t use the YT app.
nero@n3ro

@BrendanEich What's hilarious is I'm now watching YouTube via Brave on my android tablet instead of the YT app. Keep doing your thing brother!

@anil_makadia @BrendanEich @brave Could you explain more about what specifically is inconvenient? Do you mean that it's hard to reach the edit button when the keyboard is open?

@SergZh_ @BrendanEich @brave Request: please add behavior where the focused address bar moves above the keyboard (or an option to keep it bottom-focused). That would make editing URLs on phones far easier. Thanks! 🙏 @SergZh_ @brave @BrendanEich

@BrendanEich @QuackyQuacky1 @brave I agree that it would be beneficial for user on older and low range Android devices. Google's Pixel has AV1 encoding since 2021 Pixel 6 model, Samsung also has it mostly on flagship and mid range models for around 4-5 years.

@BrendanEich @brave Feature request: option in settings to disable software decoding of AV1 codec. Youtube forces this on people by default but it uses quite a lot of cpu and battery if you don't have a hardware decoder. Currently I use the extension enhanced-h264ify.

@BrendanEich @yoerichofficial there is an active work on chromium codebase currently to make extensions available on desktop Android(Chrome OS that is going to be migrated on Android OS) issues.chromium.org/issues/4439844…. It will be much easier to enable it for all Android device after that work is done.

@yoerichofficial Don't reply-jack. If you are asking about extensions for Android Brave, best to start a fresh thread and include @sergzh_. Our hope was Kiwi which MS bought, so Edge now may provide some (.zip file, delayed) open source gru to help us. Or not!

Did you know that Chrome ships a (degraded) version of the famous EasyList adblocking filter list pioneered by AdBlock/AdBlockPlus (originally they were Firefox add-ons)? But not to block ads, of course! See thread: down-thread explains this irony, up- script provenance lossage.
pes10k / pes40k.bsky.social (but in a funny way)@pes10k

@BrendanEich @ar_io_network @brave Sure! So, a fun trivia bnit is that Chrome ships a simplified version of EasyList as part of a system they call AdTracker. AdTracker checks URLs of iframes and remote scripts on the stack against EasyList to determine if something ad-related is running source.chromium.org/chromium/chrom…

@brave it's getting pretty tiring to have to go change this every time you push an update. Your dark pattern of setting this default back to brave on every update is not appreciated.

@BrendanEich @super_slavic We don't have any timeline, but that's possible. Upstream is also working to bring them on ChromeOS (Google confirms it’s merging ChromeOS and Android). All of that should help us with maintaining the code.

@super_slavic Tagging @sergzh_ who can give best answer, now that Edge may be doing extensions post-MS acq of Kiwi. In Kiwi era, we did not want to go downrev and try to backport secbug fixes. Also crash rate too high for our scale of user base.

@zombkill hm, it works very well for me. I tried also on a small screen emulator. The menu portion on the website always got rendered under the selection drop down. Could you share what device do you use, also would you be able to try it on Chrome?

New testing confirms that Brave for Android is outperforming the competition. 🏆 It's faster, uses less battery and CPU, and consumes less mobile data and Wi-Fi bandwidth than other major browsers. 🧵
