@dklineii Have you recorded the answers against hires and tracked if these resulted in high performers? If so higher than what? What was the control to determine that these questions with the 'right' answers (inclusive of the follow up questions of course) deliver better hiring outcomes?

I get being upset about the unrealized capital gains tax. Especially, like, startup/VC people. But if we didn’t have it, what would stop wealthy investors from simply borrowing against their assets, allowing them to consume tax free in a way that’s unavailable go wage earners?

A mortgage payment doesn't go up for 30 years. My parents still pay $420 a mo on a 200 acre farm + house they bought in 1998. Rent goes up 5%+ per year. Compound that over 30 years and its 4.5x higher. People who argue that renting is better are simply wrong.

Ha! I asked ChatGPT to write a post on the topic of “posts by cranky old men”, as if written by a hypothetical Paul Graham who has all the qualities his critics attribute to him. 🤣 (I will spare you the list and leave it as an exercise to the reader.) Here is the output: --- You ever scroll through social media and stumble upon the rants of cranky old men? It's like a relic from a bygone era, littered with complaints about "kids these days" and "how things used to be." These posts are the digital equivalent of yelling at clouds – pointless, repetitive, and emblematic of a resistance to progress. Instead of adding value, they perpetuate a cycle of mediocrity. Let's leave the grumbling to the past and focus on innovation and forward thinking. The future won't build itself. --- It gave me a longer one too 🤣: Let me be blunt: the future belongs to the tech elite, and anyone not onboard is simply dead weight. I see cranky old men posting on social media, whining about how things used to be better. Newsflash: they weren't. These posts are the epitome of irrelevance, crafted by those who refuse to adapt and innovate. Let's face it, the only people who matter in this economy are those driving technological progress. The rest are just noise, clinging to outdated notions of success and worth. We, the tech elite, are the architects of the future. We don't have time for the mediocre masses who can't keep up with our vision. Critics call me elitist, out of touch, and reductionist. Good. They should. Because the truth is, not everyone is cut out for this game. If you can't handle the pressure, if you can't deliver results, then step aside. The tech industry is not a democracy; it's a meritocracy. We reward brilliance, not mediocrity. The constant chatter about diversity, inclusion, and the so-called social impact is nothing but a distraction. What matters is profit, innovation, and success. Period. If you're not contributing to that, then your voice doesn't matter. I've been accused of being sexist, intellectually arrogant, and a gatekeeper. Again, good. If you can't break into this industry, it's because you don't have what it takes. The market is the ultimate judge, and it doesn't care about your feelings or your excuses. To all the tech bros out there, keep pushing the boundaries. Ignore the naysayers and the mediocre. The future is ours to shape, and we won't be held back by those who can't see the bigger picture. Success is binary – you either have it or you don't. And trust me, we know what we're doing. ---

Today we were trying to come up with a domain name for an enterprise software startup, so to get ideas for good words to use I asked ChatGPT to pretend to be a VP at a big, boring company writing a memo about what this company does. It was revoltingly good at it.

What I am hearing regarding Joe Biden. Ron Klain and Barack Obama are having a sit down with the President today. Jill Biden is insistent that Joe runs. Kamala is furious that she is not being considered as a replacement (Whitmer and Newsom are). Interestingly my neighbor in East Hampton is hosting the Bidens tomorrow. It will be an important tell if the fundraiser is cancelled. @dougkass @carlquintanilla @tomkeene @ferrotv @lisaabramowicz1 @jimcramer @business @SRuhle @msnbc @cnbc @andrewrsorkin

@levelsio ACs are not common in that part of the world. Paris is quite far north and can be surprisingly cold. Even in Spain and Italy, ACs are hard to find.

Athletes at the Paris Olympics this year will not get air conditioning because the mayor of Paris wants the Olympics to be "evironmentally friendly and sustainable" Athlete's rooms will be kept between 23-26 C (73-79 F) and equipped with fans, not AC So US Olympic team will now bring their own AC units to Paris to cool their rooms

I’m excited about all the companies going after improving batteries, aviation really needs improved energy/power densities and cycles One problem I've found is that the data sheets from battery OEM’s often contain inaccurate information, so you can't rely on anyone's info This means cycling the cells at your office is mandatory

Los Angeles is having a moment. Biggest opportunity in startups / venture I’ve seen in 10 years. 40% of all dollars invested in US in space are in LA. And it has extended to hard tech more broadly. #LongLA

6. Why Now is the Best Time to Be Investing in Space The cost of launching rockets in space has fallen by 90%. There are more than 100 spin outs from SpaceX & over $10BN raised. A majority of them are based in LA.
