Been a ~while~ since we’ve crafted a few words & cooked some educational visuals. What are Bitcoin covenants anyways? (calling it now will be the hot topic post-BIP110) Including some of sweetest GIFs I’ve made to-date:

BREAKING: President Trump has formally notified US Congress that the US is at war with Iran, per Politico. Details include: 1. The move gives Trump another 60 days to use the military in the region without congressional approval 2. Trump said strikes that began on July 7th represent "military action consistent with my responsibility to protect Americans and US interests both at home and abroad" 3. Trump also just said that he will "hit Iran hard" tonight amid mounting tensions The Iran War appears to be back again.

@trustless_nyc You don't know what you're talking about, we don't need miners. If they want to make money for "profit" instead of the good of the network we'll simply change the PoW algorithm.

@beeforbacon1 @dotkrueger Oh no yeah I know this, but if returning a default policy configuration would avoid ~1 year of developer, community, etc...mind suck I'd consider it a no-brainer.

The anti-BIP-110 crowd keeps saying we should "settle this with a bet" like real men. I've already been offered 10:1 odds by Wicked on BIP-110. But here's the bet I'd actually like to make: 20:1 odds that Bitcoin's default OP_RETURN limit is reduced back to 81 bytes within the next 12 months. If you're convinced the current policy is permanent and the market has spoken, this should be an easy bet to take.

Thanks, I actually deeply appreciate the olive-branch but there are too many reasons for me to not get behind both behavioral & technical. > behavioral This is not an emergency, an existential crises, nor anything that requires the urgency expressed. I find the entire 'run bip110 or you're a pedo' schitick as an entirely unpalatable fear-based social tactic. > technical The manipulation pushed a hard, fast (by BTC standards) deadline that forced sub-optimal solutions. One of the changes to script literally break a business of mine (multisig for businesses) & was a reaction to a *SINGLE* inscription collection (LaBitBus, which used the control block). To me, sending "the message" was valid & something I spiritually am behind. But instead of just returning op_return cap & targeting inscriptions we're left with scope creep, broken wallets & broken tools. I don't believe the Knots/BIP110 team would [currently] be better stewards of [my vision] of Bitcoin than Core (note this doesn't mean I'm in love w/ Core or that they're faultless).

You know it expires in one year and in the mean time there is absolutely going to be discussions on whether to make op return permanently consensus controlled or revert it back to the policy. All the people like you that agree in principle but not the details(correct me if I'm wrong) are exactly the ones that should get on board now and participate in the discussion to nudge it in the right direction.

@dotkrueger Nope not at all the same bet. Many anti-BIP110 peeps would gladly welcome a non-consensus change to the op_return cap.

Growing up I unironically thought this move was extremely goated. Hilarious in retrospect that it basically single-handedly ended Connery's career. > Tom Sawyer > Captain Nemo > Dorian Gray > Dr. Jekyll > Invisible Man > Lady Dracula
The Sting@TheStingisBack

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the film that made Connery call it quits, turns 23 today. This steampunk “literary Avengers” with Allan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray, Dr. Jekyll, Mina Harker, and more was ahead of the curve. This transformation still looks great.

What is the problem Bitcoin is trying to solve? The answer needs to be one maybe two sentences and have an impact. Saying it's "freedom tech" or the "uses are endless" isn't marketing, it's bland. Optimizing Bitcoin for it's intended purpose is not optional when obvious abuses emerge #BIP110Summer

> BIP110 isn’t anti-spam
Softfork Mechanic #BIP-110@GrassFedBitcoin

Hi, So BIP110 isn't anti-spam. It identifies >83 byte OP_RETURNs and the usage of OP_IF in taproot specifically as threats that go beyond mere spam having become sanctioned as *official methods of file storage in Bitcoin*. This happened as a result of Core 30 removing a filter in the midst of a discussion that was centered around the less consequential defaults for relay policy, which remains where conversations about spam actually belong. Bitcoin is *not* a file storage platform, and if it is allowed to become one it seems inevitable to most that it will eventually be used for the worst kind of media given its unique ability to "force" everyone to store the media in perpetuity whilst having the option to do so anonymously. Those who do not understand this scream "fear mongering" or simply do not understand that Bitcoin only works if it is decentralized and that deviating from a monetary mandate to arbitrary data storage means the death of decentralization. This has all been carefully delineated amidst an incredibly noisy, emotionally charged conversation which is all the result of Bitcoin not having a corporate governance structure which is a feature, not a bug. You can participate in the discussion in an informed way, and if you were to do so, it would be greatly appreciated given your overwhelming influence. But it appears that so far, you have yet to even understand the motivation for the BIP. The spam filter/default relay policy conversation never ended and continues the minute BIP110 activates and the JPG spammers all find some new approach. But Bitcoin will no longer be vulnerable to the specific issue BIP110 targets.

@GrassFedBitcoin Ah ty for that clarification. Now that I have you here can you (or @dathon_ohm) update this section of the BIP website? It only mentions multisigs that use OP_IF but this *also* breaks any multisig or heavy scriptpath with a depth > 7.
