Spotted this ghost sign for M&A Browns, a bakers, cooks, and confectioners located at 380 Great Western Road. According to the West End Address Archive, it dates back to 1898. A glimpse into local history before it was quickly covered over again.

A developer wants to demolish the B-listed neo-classical Hillhead Baptist Church, built in 1883 by Thomas L. Watson, and replace it with a clunky block of flats. The deadline to object is midnight on Friday. You can use my objection letter as a template👇🏻pauljsweeney.com/post/planning-…

@PastGlasgow Believe that’s the roof of the long-gone Woodside Church visible in the distance, to the right. The site was later occupied by a petrol station.

A great shot of Great Western Rd, pictured in the 1920s from the top of the Cooper's building. The empty streets and clear horizon suggest it might be the Fair. The tenement on the left, known as Salisbury Place, fell victim to subsidence and was demolished in the 80s. 📷 Herald

London Rd, 1962 v 2024. It's 1962 and this 'Cunarder' on service no 9 is heading to Dalmuir West. It's passing a neat little brick terrace of shops on London Rd that have since been reduced to a single storey. Glickman's is still at this location today.

@GlasgowCC Decades late and you come up with something that sounds this weak: “[The Commission] cannot reasonably be expected to save every historic building in Glasgow, or intervene in statutory Planning or Building Standards activities, decisions, or duties.”

I'm appalled that the Planning Committee has agreed to approve the demolition of this historic warehouse on Oswald Street. The last vestige of this street's history at the heart of the Port of Glasgow is now to be wiped out for a speculative hotel development. Shocking decision.

The Planning Committee meets tomorrow to decide the fate of a bonded warehouse that has stood on Oswald Street for 180 years. Façade retention is feasible. The case for demolition is based on a shoddy survey by an engineer who isn't conservation-accredited glasgowworld.com/news/plans-to-…

There has been a lot of concern about the proposal to demolish a large part of the A-listed former North British Locomotive Company HQ in Springburn. After discussion with the owner, he has agreed to withdraw the demolition application and to work with me to explore alternatives
Paul Sweeney MSP@PaulJSweeney

The A-listed North British Locomotive Company HQ in Springburn is one of Glasgow's finest buildings. Its owner Marcus Dean wants to demolish James Miller's beautiful terracotta quadrangle, which reflected light into the drawing offices. I will strongly object to this vandalism!

Aside from causing frustration and damage, the potholes around St George’s Cross offer a peek into Glasgow's past, revealing the beauty of its historic cobbled streets.

Good news for commuters in Scotland. The off-peak all-day ticket trial is being extended by @ScotRail, a company wholly owned by @scotgov. When we own it, we can make decisions for people rather than private profit.

Banning LGBTQ+ education will not change the identity of a single child. What it will do is make thousands of LGBTQ kids feel alone and othered. I lived through section 28. It almost killed me. It did kill a close friend of mine. This must be fought.

@GlasgowCC This is Glasgow, so naturally, there must be a major road running through it. Meanwhile, other cities worldwide are shifting towards bold urban revitalisation, turning expressways into parks, creating popular destinations for locals and visitors alike.

@cocteautriplets @f0rmat @GlasgowCC The historical significance and nostalgia of Glasgow trams still captivate. Your map really adds to my fascination, igniting an interest in urban planning, and helping to envision their return. So thank you for creating it. Would love to see a print version available one day!

This fascinating map by @cocteautriplets beautifully illustrates the extensive Glasgow tram network in 1938, with over 1,000 municipally-owned trams connecting communities as distant as Clydebank and Airdrie. Imagine if @GlasgowCC could resurrect even a fraction of this today.
