Yesterday, I stood beside a man who has lost everything.... In Ghaziabad, I, met the Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with the child’s father. The team has now begun probing the horrific case. Led by Manzil Saini, Inspector General (IG), Vigilance, the SIT has formally taken charge. We submitted documents and videographic evidence. Every piece of truth we have fought to gather over the past weeks. The SIT includes Indu Siddhartha, Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP)/SP Crime, Muzaffarnagar, and Priyashri Pal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Police Commissionerate Ghaziabad. They will begin recording statements of key witnesses from today. For this father, every step has been a battle..against fear, against pressure, against a system that failed his child when she needed it the most. Today, we place our faith in the SIT. Because this is not just about one case. It is about accountability. It is about dignity. It is about justice..for a child who deserved so much more. Hanuman ji, pls stand by us 🙏

Imagine a victim being treated like a criminal, while the accused moves freely inside a courtroom.. I accompanied the father of the four-year-old girl, allegedly raped and brutally killed in Ghaziabad, to the POCSO Court. What unfolded there was deeply disturbing. After the Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) allegedly insisted that he “stick to the FIR version,” the father refused to depose, stating that his earlier statement had been forcibly obtained. When we attempted to leave after submitting a complaint, police restrained the father and forcibly dragged him back inside, claiming he was “in custody.” They said they would be suspended if the father doesn't depose.. I could hardly believe what I was witnessing. In protest, I rushed into the courtroom and pleaded before the judge. The court immediately intervened and directed the police not to touch the father. All this while, the accused stood barely a metre away, watching. This happened while the matter was pending before the Supreme Court of India... This is not how justice is meant to function. There is no law that compels a victim to depose when he does not feel safe or is under distress. And why is there no CCTV surveillance outside a POCSO court room, a space that deals with some of the gravest offences? A system where a grieving father is coerced, restrained, and treated like an accused...while the accused stands unrestrained. This is not just a lapse. He came to court to speak the truth about the rape and brutal murder of his 4 years old daughter.. He says he was told not to... The father, whose case is now before the Supreme Court of India, went to the POCSO Court, Ghaziabad yesterday to record his statement. He said he is illiterate. That he never wrote the statement in the FIR. That he now wants to tell the truth in court. His child was alive when found, not DEAD..and it was RAPE but sections were added later He was allegedly told by the ADGC to "stick to the FIR version or risk weakening the case". Shaken, he submitted a request saying he could not depose today. And then he was manhandled by police and forcibly dragged back inside while I protested. Police said he was in "custody" and they would lose their jobs if he doesn't give his statement today. The accused was standing barely a metre away from us. Watching. Both allegedly refused to treat her. One hospital had a police check post right outside! Father says he was humiliated by the police. Despite visible indicators, initial FIR didn't mention rape and POCSO wasn't invoked. When I approached Advocate Siddharth Yadav, he immediately stepped in and ensured the father’s plea reached Supreme Court. The Indian Army, as also the Pakistani Army is composed of ethnic, religious and caste formations, reflecting the realities of this subcontinent. Officers however, are allotted Regiments on a random basis, or on parental claim. For example, if my father, a Malayali, served in the Jat Regiment, I his son, can claim affiliation to the Jat Regiment on receiving my Presidential Commission. However, if I do not claim that right, I will be allotted a Regiment randomly. Once a part of a Regiment, an officer assumes the religion, customs, war cries and language of his troops. The initial Young Officers' Course introduces him to and teaches him the language, religion and customs of his troops. His personal religion remains personal, to be practiced in his home, with his family. A Catholic Christian Officer in a Gurkha Regiment will speak Gorkhali, engage in Durga Puja observances and sacrifice buffaloes with his Gurkha troops. A uninformed maulvi has been known to conduct a Regimental Janmashtami puja and deliver a sermon of such beauty, that every eye was rendered moist... That Samuel Kamleshan placed his personal religion before his troops' religion and customs, is an unconscionable affront to the ethos of the Indian Army. He had to go.
