One thing that feels under-discussed in all the conversations about attracting foreign capital into India is the Indian diaspora. There is a large population of NRIs who are emotionally and financially interested in investing in India. But today, for many of them, the process of opening accounts, completing documentation, and actually investing in Indian markets is still far more painful than it needs to be. Making life easier for NRIs could be one of the lowest-hanging fruits for attracting long-term capital into India. This is something we’ve been focusing on heavily at @zerodha as well. Over the last year or so, we’ve made several changes to make investing as seamless as possible for NRIs. But there are still many frictions that exist because of regulatory and compliance requirements. Hopefully, SEBI and the government look at this more closely and think about how to make it easier for NRIs to bring money into India and participate in Indian markets. For a country trying to attract global capital, the Indian diaspora seems like the most obvious place to start.

There was a Shopify Partner Townhall after such a long time today… and it brought back memories. Sharing a snippet from my first-ever Shopify event, ADWS Bangalore, 2017. I wrote to @vargabbakshi for a free ticket because I had no money for travel or the ticket. Finally, we got there, and those two days were incredible. The talk @AtulPoharkar gave was a playbook for app building. The feedback I got on our newly launched app from @shashankkr9 , Vargab, and Atul was incredible. The way people came out to help, I knew I had found my community, and I decided: we're going all-in on Shopify. From there to today… what a journey ❤️ Hearing Harley talk about bringing the community back genuinely felt special. And making Dot.dev a 2-day event this year?! 👀 Super excited to see everyone IRL soon. Also..... funny thing. At the event, I kept hearing about "X" so much that I started feeling left out 😅 Feels like the entire Shopify world has moved here. So here I am. @jasmine_oxify We did the same. But one of the mistakes done was to completely let go off support. Realised keeping 10-20% bandwidth for support as a founder, kept us grounded and close to merchant’s evolving needs.

I finally did something I've been putting off for 2 years. The relief honestly surprised me. Finally hired someone to handle customer support for my Shopify app. I was drowning in DMs and tickets, barely sleeping. My app was growing but I was burning out fast. Now I can actually focus on building features instead of answering the same questions 50 times a day. Admitting you can't do everything solo is tough, but wow, it makes life a lot easier.

@levelsio Many unnamed Indie Shopify Apps have been built out of India. I built @pushowl, Indian company, registered in India, used by 50K+ e-commerce stores globally, and acquired by Brevo.

What Indian startups are used globally?

@jon_kennedy1 Quite tempted to build something offline. Btw Tri (BoostCommerce) has opened a beautiful bar in HCMC in case you every go there.

I love Shopify but sometimes I day dream of building something offline and in a completely different industry. Any other Shopify partners have this dream or urge?

@mukundjha @emergentlabs An App Store equivalent for Emergent with reviews/testimonials. Will be great to get the foundation of a high quality built apps. So it needs to be GitHub + Trust layer built in.

Love the idea. Easy to do on @emergentlabs, just connect your GitHub and publish. We should make this more easier though..!

Requesting the folks at Shopify to please step in and help figure things out. We too have received the trademark notice. And the deadline to fix it is 6 days away. Otherwise, our app will be delisted from the Shopify app store. Just like that. After 5 years of being on the app store and complying with every request or warning or mildly threatening email about fixing something "or else". Quite a violent way to communicate, I feel. Like this is the best a multi billion corporation can do? It does not make any sense @harleyf @ShopifyDevs since the app store is full of apps with "Facebook" and "Instagram" in their app titles and descriptions. Meta is forcing "WhatsApp" named apps to remove the word because they have launched their own WhatsApp app for Shopify. When a big guy flexes, we small people don't have any way out. Except if another big guy ( looking at you @Shopify @tobi ) is there to stand-up and meditate and come up with a more peaceful and decent way to go about it.
