April 2nd was the Drift exploit. We were at the Solana @incubator, finalizing launch plans for USDv, while it unfolded from the same building as members of their team. At the time, we were ready to launch USDv with staking for permissionless yield, while keeping the broader YaaS platform gated to a specific set of users. It was a good plan, but it was also a plan with a lot of inertia baked in. Parts of the architecture were rooted in decisions from 2024/25. The market was different then. Token-2022 was earlier. The regulatory environment was earlier. The tooling, controls, and permissions were earlier. By April, the opportunity had changed and expanded, much of it thanks to our @MetaDAOProject raise. Counterparties wanted USDv to behave like a dollar, with risk expectations much closer to USDC than a crypto yield product. Users wanted the same productive dollar behavior that YaaS offered. Internally, we knew USDv could be meaningfully better: safer under stress, simpler for users, and closer to the original vision. Security became the deciding filter. Drift was not the reason we changed direction, but it was the final straw that pushed us to stop the rollout and make the painful decision to upgrade. Since then, we rebuilt the USDv program, completed audit, rearchitected the platform to scale, and refined the flows for broader adoption. This was all done in 2.5 months. Every day in that window felt agonizingly long. Having a live token pushes you like nothing else. Undertaking something like this, at this scale, in 2.5 months should not be possible. But the team was relentless and token limits were hit constantly. We now have the product we always envisioned. A productive dollar. Fully liquid. Fully spendable. No staking. No wrappers. No lockups. Built to scale to the masses. Solana will get its productive dollar. Solomon will deliver the infrastructure to route economics across all assets.
