@IuliiaMendel you’re right tht territory is no longer the measure of the war’s success or failure. cost is. here, you fail to acknowledge the war’s vast cost to ruZZia.

When people discuss the war in Ukraine, the conversation almost always narrows to the front line—and now, with Ukrainian forces tasked primarily with defending Donbas, "the front" feels reduced to just that. I deeply admire our military: they achieve the impossible, pushing through hell to fulfill orders. Right now, they've shared how brutally hard it was to breach Russian defenses in Dnipropetrovsk reg, advancing 12 km deep (and efforts around Huliaipole) to shield the parts of Dnipropetrovsk bordering Donbas—all while resources are funneled to protect the main Donbas sector. Yet look at the dialectic of events: while our troops advance there, Russians are seizing villages in northern Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, creating their so-called "buffer zones." They've even abducted people from yet another village in Sumy recently. The core issue isn't our soldiers' bravery or performance—they execute flawlessly. The war has long become a political conflict. No matter how fiercely we defend one sector or reclaim a few square kilometers (even half the size of Kyiv), Ukraine keeps losing overall. We gain a few villages in Dnipropetrovsk, but lose others in Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Territory is no longer the true measure of this war's cost. Ukraine's economy is unsustainable, the demographic crisis catastrophic, energy infrastructure bombed out—people lack water and heat, many say they won't survive another winter like this. Education is collapsing, losing an entire generation; medicine lags; society drowns in depression and tension. The last major lifeline hangs by a thread: that €90 billion EU loan package - an aid for thre--four months. Ukraine, once Europe's largest democracy bordering Russia, now mirrors its hazy reflection. This war has shifted to turning an entire nation into refugees, victims, or survivors—where human life means nothing, where you always just endure: from Putin's missiles and domestic hardships alike. We've lost life itself. Media fixates on heroic Zelenskyy images and territorial maps, but the war is about something far deeper. My voice, once again, screams into the void—while thousands parrot propaganda as if it truly cares for Ukrainians, not just the narrow elite's survival and enrichment at any price

There’s a sense in Ukraine of the war having reached a turning point due to battlefield changes, survival of the winter bombing, and ruZZia’s role in assisting Iran. kyivpost.com/opinion/71498?…

Exclusive: Russia is providing Iran with targeting information to attack American forces in the Middle East, the first indication that another major U.S. adversary is participating — even indirectly — in the war. wapo.st/4sxlWTW

Four years after the full-scale invasion by ruZZia started, Australians’ support for Zelensky and for continued military aid by Australia for Ukraine remains very high. Time to make aid more consistent and reliable. @AmbVasyl @SenatorWong @AlboMP @RichardMarlesMP

Earlier today I read a story of an elderly resident of Kyiv who was taking the elevator down to the basement because of an air raid alert. The power cut and she was trapped in the lift. Nobody knew she was there. She froze to death.

Ukraine is experiencing a winter of terror under Russia's assault on its energy sector. Our correspondent in Kyiv details the reality of living in a freezing city without electricity — and the means people have to take to care for vulnerable relatives: politico.eu/article/ukrain…

⚡️ Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder urges Europe to stop “demonizing” Russia and resume buying its energy. “Russia is not a country of barbarians, but a country with great culture and deep historical ties to Germany,” Schröder wrote. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry fires back, accusing him of putting Europe on Putin’s gas hook and asking bluntly: “Are the rubles still dripping?”

@IAPonomarenko And it reveals that this is not about security but some graft that Trump has in his sights.

You may laugh, but under the 1951 agreement (!) and the 2004 amendments, the U.S. defense area in Greenland has effectively operated under a de facto extraterritorial regime all along, with U.S. jurisdiction de facto applying there, and this has been the case for decades.

1 million Kyivans without power. 600k have left city. #Ukraine hit with 51k missiles & drones in 12 months…. what happens when, for Trump & Putin, personal & imperial delusions rule. The leaders of the White House & the Kremlin are united in a political psychosis.

@GrayConnolly An existing agreement allows the US to deploy as it wishes in Greenland. Hence, the security argument is all bluster and cover for some Trump grift.

A late 2025 study found that 66% of Ukrainian veterans have #PTSD. That works out to more than 500,000 people. Their recovery also belongs on the Kremlin’s reparations bill. #ukraine

"Deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about physical destruction" is an act of genocide, according to the UN Genocide Convention. Putin's campaign to destroy Ukraine's heating and power systems amid -15C weather surely qualifies atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
