@JB_Ratel @PaulTassi Yep I would say that’s a good reading of the situation. I doubt Sony would have paid $4bn+ for D2 alone. It was the promise of multiple live service games that would have lured them in, and I doubt they forecasted D2’s deterioration or the cannibalisation effect of Marathon.

I’m far more interested in learning about the business case that lead to the decisions about this game? Player count expectations, longevity, etc. it’s definitely niche, and Bungie sacrificed a lot to make it. My personal (conspiracy) theory is its main purpose has already been accomplished: the selling of Bungie. All the heads have cashed in and got their win. If Bungie only had D2 then the sale price is a factor of revenue, but by adding Marathon and other incubation games they could sell potential and exponentially get the sale price up. That happened and their goals for it were accomplished.

@PaulTassi I worry the game as a whole has too many similarities to Trials and will eventually eat itself up just as that game mode did over time. Average players aren’t going to do well in Cryo, and that average bar will gradually rise over time as the player base dwindles.

@KnightUvTime @1t_brooks There’s still things they could tweak for mouse control such as reducing bullet magnetism or they could add more variance to the bullet spread. But the point isn’t about joypad vs mouse - it’s about signal jammer providing even effects for all players

More tips to survive Tau Ceti: - if you’re new focus on sponsored kit runs until you fill your vault and learn the maps, then try using some gear. If you lose it, rinse repeat :). -smokes, invis, and signal jammers significantly reduce or remove AA on you (if the other player is using a controller) - signal jammers pretty much render you almost invisible to thermal scopes, but also make you undetectable to turrets, tads, and other detection methods. - the slower you move the less you can be seen in invis, stopping entirely makes you invisible. - you can use MCH kits to reduce heat buildup from the fire rain on outpost, or remove the debuff from overheating - pay attention to weapon chip mods, they hold really valuable perks, like reloading stowed weapons, for example - being in water increases your speed of heat regeneration and reduces heat buildup. Couching also increases heat regeneration. Crouch in water and you regen heat the fastest. And just remember: - it’s not always about being the first to kill. It’s more often about being the one to live. (No shame in running when you don’t think you can win.)

Marathon pain points (for me and I love the game) - solo with fill vs stacks - aim assist - bad onboarding - thermals These are already a problem and are likely to become worse down the line

@BigBox1598193 Well, it sort of makes it hard for you to see what you’re shooting at especially from a distance. So it does effect mnk already, it just doesn’t let you get a free lock on if you’re using a controller. Hope that helps!

Melee knife damage testing! Looks like all runners can be taken down by 3 swings (besides base Rook vs. purple). With all 3 melee upgrades, you can guarantee 2 swings max to kill on any shell. Still more data needed to confirm this! I also want to time various knife combos.

Lemmings turned 35 this year (a few days ago)... Not just one of the most unique games ever, but also one of the best. When Lemmings hit the market in February 1991, it felt like a completely new concept - something never done before. At least I don’t remember any game that came even remotely close. On top of that, it had an incredibly gorgeous style, beautiful graphics, the cutest animated pixel characters, and one of gaming history’s most recognizable soundtracks. I remember one review giving it a 99% rating with the comment that “we need to leave the 1% off so there’s room for something better - if it ever comes” (paraphrased). In all the years since, you’d have a hard time finding a more unique concept that’s also so very playable. The early levels are super easy, basically a walk in the park, gently introducing the idea and controls. But once you reach the later levels, boy, does it get tough. It never felt unfair, though - the key was smart usage and timing of the different Lemming types. That’s why the game was also great with friends: you’d sit around the screen and try to figure out the best strategy together. Lemmings became one of the most sold games ever on the Amiga. Deservedly so. This game is timeless and 99% perfection.

@PaulTassi @Forbes I think Prismatic has actually hurt the game a bit. Both in terms of PVP and PVE, it drastically reduced the appeal of using the other 5 subclasses which then makes the game a boring one subclass game.
