@InOneProjects those tools are how i fell in love with gamedev, so i hope you’re right unattached to a major game im not sure all of these games will find the same kind of audience. but we will try…

We're heading for a golden age of gaming. The sheer variety of games in this competition is inspiring. It reminds me of the glory days of the Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 editors, which gave us classics like the entire MOBA genre and Tower Defense. Devs/Players have the tools now to iterate on anything and do it quickly.

@alightinastorm i may or may not have something going for orbital ops. these things don't always work out😂 getting it to work should be pretty easy. getting it fun...hmm any long term mutliplayer game (ai-assist or not) is going to have to solve the matthew effect: the rich get richer

@TheStudioBigly this is looking good! the secondary motion on the character is cool. a denser trail might help readability at a distance..?

@sidriff This is a big one. I spent extra time making sure that you can see other players lean in their steering direction and jump around. Just seeing them is not enough. It needs to feel alive.

@GlenPawley thats right. i was pressed on time and it looked like the easiest way. it seems to just have a model look at the frames and write a prompt. but i was impressed at how well it worked.

@sidriff Those outrun vibes 👌 What do you mean "elevenlabs took the footage"? Does it have some kind of "apply soundtrack to video feature"? I haven't used them in a while.

5 - for the same reason as #4, drop in games where players can work on their own objectives like a high score are easier to successfully build. for orbital ops the “war game” mode offers continuous pvp with the goal of high scores.

4 - have bots. unless you’re launching to a captive audiences of thousands, you’ll have empty rooms. bots can give players a reason to stick around long enough to bump into someone else.

Rainy day vibes! 🎵 (Turn on sound for cosy vibes) I think I've settled on the #vibejam game concept. It's called Tiny Skies, it's a charming, cosy flying game where you fly around a tiny world, delivering packages, exploring the world and getting to know its inhabitants. If you've played Nintendo Animal Crossing before, you would probably recognise the kind of cosy vibes I'm going for.

@imkieransmith i played around. you've got a great eye for feel and polish. the camera sway and rotational drag in cockpit are pristine! immediately wanted the grapple hook though...

#vibejam iteration 3: space mountains tip: you can draw player into your worlds by populating them with details that matter. cover is great example. background graphics are nice, but gameplay satisfaction explodes when the world harmonizes with player mechanics. i started this iteration by giving claude a screenshot and asking how we could make it look and feel more like an asteroid. here's what we built: • non-spherical shape. triaxial squash + low-freq lumps = potato silhouette, not a ball • enhanced craters using power-law distribution (many tiny, few massive) • boulder field created with multi-LOD instanced mesh system. 3 detail tiers with per-vertex deformation so rocks are lumpy, not round • spatial placement for crater-floor bias so boulders cluster in disturbed terrain • dynamic destruction • vehicle physics so debris bounces off ship/rover with collision shake • gravity & tumbling (this is the best part) debris falls back, re-roots on landing. Rocks rotate as they drift

Day 2 of VibeJam → Added arrow attacks 🏹 → Smart targeting system 🎯 (watch till end) → Prototyped main level 🏔️ No fixed game design right... But broadly thinking about: → Multiplayer ? (might check out colyseus) → Mobile ? (capacitor for 'native' ios app) WDYT?
Chong-U@chongdashu

Day 1 of VibeJam for me → Lots of 3D games already → Deciding to go 2D this year → Using Phaser 4 (!) → Codex + GPT 5.4 I always start off with a test 'gym' → Get main movement working 🏃 → Tweak values (jump height, run speed) 🔧 → Add as much debug as possible 🐞

well the truck is just some boxes on wheels. 😅 technically speaking, these visuals aren't super fancy. its threejs + UnrealBloomPass + some cool color choices. there's some custom magic and tuning happening in a CRTShader, but these are actually a dime-a-dozen if you look around.

vibe-maxing design tip for #vibejam: try being HIGHLY ITERATIVE in the early days, i plan nothing last night i asked claude, what if we added a rover? and some hours later we have produced the most f*** yeah vehicle gameplay of my entire design career detailed plans work for some. but if you're like me, you'll do better if you focus on what's emerging before you. get your ideas from the pursuit of your ideas.
