@SophiscNews @mypalal @BobTheMutant @PageauJonathan It's laughed about because it's ridiculously bad
And Batman Begins was mediocre, got a mediocre reception, and nobody cared about it.

First thoughts on The Odyssey.
There is a scene at the very beginning of the film in which, in the absence of his father, Telemachus is being trained by the blind Eumaeus, Odysseus’s loyal servant. Eumaeus warns that the reason Telemachus is constantly being bested by his sparring partner is that his defense is too quick. He must move more slowly, open his chest, invite the attack, and use his opponent’s momentum against him.
In the spirit of Odysseus, deep trickery is at work in this film.
Don’t let the apparent compromises fool you. The Odyssey is an absolute triumph. It is made with a profound love for the source material, filled with deep pathos: the return of the father, the elevation of the son, and the restoration of proper order despite all the sins perpetrated by the guardians of that order.
It is a film about the end of one world and the beginning of another; about remembrance, return, and the perpetuation of an order after a long wandering through chaos.
It’s The Odyssey.

@SophiscNews @mypalal @BobTheMutant @PageauJonathan How would you know? At this point there is no way to know who is in the "minority".
How did people eventually feel about The Dark Knight Rises?
English

@mypalal @BobTheMutant @PageauJonathan Dude you’re in the small minority with your reaction
Even if you didn’t like it, can’t you recognize your viewing experience is the minority?
English

I imagined the book version of the Frankenstein monster castigating a homeless person.
"Excuse me, sir, could you spare some change?"
"You dare entreat my commiseration? Lo, this abominable vagrant doth beg my heed! Verily, I say unto you, I would never deign to lower my gaze upon thee had thou not commandeered my advertence! Thy countenance is a pox upon my eyes! Begone with thee, begrimed vagabond! Back to the gutter whence thou hast slithered, villain! I would smite thee with my ring hand, had I more than the slightest velleity to soil it, and raise my gorge unto a fit of vomiting! Fie! Fie upon thee! You fuck!"

@ReviewsPossum Gen X adultescents make it impossible for kids to play LEGO.
English

What is that, like, a dollar per piece?
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm
First look at the return of LEGO SpongeBob. The set will cost $220.

@FreshPorpoise36 @ReviewsPossum Adam is an unlikable whiny psychopath.
English

@ReviewsPossum If I remember correctly, the monster wasn't really hostile to random individuals in the book. He even tried being nice at the start. All of the people he killed were related to the doctor in some way and, he killed them to spite the doctor for creating him without purpose.

@STGshmups The 3D effect is fantastic with that series, and particularly for Stretchmo.
The 3DS eShop is closed I think, but that can be dealt with.
The 3DS is the only console I still have, it's great for summer.
English

@simbaoblivion I’ll check it out, I liked the previous blog you shared with me. Better than I could do. If I play this I’d play it on my New3DS, it’s getting some usage lately thanks to Zelda and TearRing Saga out of all things.
English

@STGshmups The DLC structure makes it a bit harder to emulate (you have to install the DLC through the emulator).
If you want, you can read an article I made on the whole series, it's in French but now translators are very good.

English

@STGshmups Since this model was frowned upon at the time, I think it didn't sell well, even though it's much better than the other games.
It's basically Pushmo, except you can pull two blocks deep only, but you can pull FROM ALL SIDES, which changes everything.
Level creation is very fun.

@Nerdrotics The director's cut is an excellent film, and Ben Affleck plays my favourite Batman (and Bruce Wayne).

English

@DiscussingFilm @BBCWorld Nolan directs dumb action flicks that try to appear smart by being long, grey and pretentious.

Christopher Nolan says he told his son that he removed his Oscars from his office while writing ‘THE ODYSSEY’ as they felt daunting to look at.
His son replied - “But you didn’t win any for writing.”

@DutchHumanist @telepuzique @nonregemesse They're the shots chosen to promote the movie. So they're supposed to be the best the movie has to offer.
Are you really that dense or are you pretending?
English

@telepuzique @nonregemesse How does it feel to judge a 3 hour movie based on the same endlessly reposted 3-4 screenshots?
Genuinely curious.

Using a Viking ships for the Odyssey is like having medieval knights driving cars
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm
‘THE ODYSSEY’ had one sequence filmed in such stormy conditions on a 115ft wooden longship in the sea that many actors started vomiting. Nolan then said — “would you mind if we get the vomiting on camera?” (Source: telegraph.co.uk/films/2026/07/…)
English

@nonregemesse Nobody cares, dude. This movie's focus was not to be historically accurate. It's about telling the story and to look cool.
