@duffy1972 @Starlink @EE We just use some £25 boosters from Amazon to get signal round the house, WiFi Calling works fine 👍

OK, users of @Starlink we hear great things about speed but what's the WiFi like from standard router. I hear most people need additional repeaters/mesh systems installed to get a good house coverage. The monthly charge is less than current @EE 4g but £299 and then repeater????

@bleating_lamb @No1FarmerJake Add in the review of ELMs funding next year, and reductions if necessary for other priorities… that’s in the small print too 👌

@No1FarmerJake And we played nicely… they visited our farms, they saw what we did, we cooperated, we co-designed. Our lack of public reaction to every stab in the back tells politicians it didn’t hurt enough. Eventually we have to stand up, protest & tell them death by a thousand cuts hurts.

Can they legally do that, we’ve been planning for 2028 for a long time-goalposts felled!
Jo Franklin@theladyfarmer

@JanetHughes @KapilaSandy can we understand why please? Particularly when no SFI money has really been available yet? And agreements still are being sent out?

And the absolutely insane thing is that we have legal commitments (yet alone moral or decency ones) to restore nature and address climate change None of that can be done without farmers and farmland At some point government has to come back to us and persuade us to help them

The old promise is now dead They (last government and this one) haven’t kept the promise of the proposed wind down of the old programme They haven’t created a new scheme for everyone to access They haven’t sustained the budget in real terms And have underspent the old budget

@bencm305 @JRDSills It depends on how much everyone wants to push the whole operation. There are so many different techniques, the biggest effect on efficiency is doing everything possible to keep a machine cutting. Making gateways big enough or lowering hedges not to take the header off is one

@JRDSills Thanks James - I'll have a read! Just a subject that fascinates me. I no there are loads of variables, but some drivers get a huge amount more out of a machine then others. Definitely experience / skills that could benefit others I feel.

Is there an independent combine operator trainer in the UK? Someone who drives one themself, who knows how to push these mega machines close to their limits and how to be as efficient as possible with cutting techniques and organising trailers / logistics? I don't mean the old school approach of how to set one up - operators should no that, I mean really learning how to take these £800k machines from say 60% efficiency to 90%... If there isn't such a person, then there is a huge opportunity out there for someone to earn very good money, for a few days work a year.... I'll just add, I am not looking for said person. I just feel its crazy these critical machines, most expensive machines out there, are covered by a 1/2 days technical training (which is very good btw).

Defra has announced that over 10,000 farmers have signed up for the SFI, reigniting the debate of producing food versus looking after the environment. 📽️ Senior Economist Amandeep takes a look at the factors that you should consider before applying. 👉ow.ly/niaB50QIl8Z

@simonk88 @TWBFarms ADM are paying a premium per ha though (if you’re talking about the OSR contract) and as I understand it, it isn’t compulsory, similar to the LEAF OSR contract they had a few years back?

Lot of this about Tom !! - I endured a presentation last week about “our” problem and how “we” were going to fix it with altruistic help 🤣…….. “insetting” needs to be exposed as the processor / retailer theft it is and farmers need to urgently understand and resist this
Tom Allen-Stevens@tomallenstevens

@BakersofHP It really pisses me off when i see statements like "General Mills intends to adopt regenerative agriculture..." they will do no such thing. It is the farmers who will adopt regen ag. General Mills can encourage it by offering a decent premium + practical support.

@vickihird @MilesKing10 @edbarkerAIC Farm Land being bought round here by developers for BNG, whole farms being put down to SFI, they can make an attractive ROI from that

@MilesKing10 @edbarkerAIC Not to mention that if we had a proper food nutrition security strategy we'd tackle - >30% of food wasted, - >100, 000hectares used for biofuels - food wasted as junk, overprocessed leading to obesity - and reduce 2million hectares used for intensive livestock feed.

We do risk a food supply crisis but it’s nonsense to suggest this is because of land being entered into the basic element of ELMS, the Sustainable Farming Incentive. Look how much farmland was in basic schemes in the past. Was there a food supply crisis in 2013? Of course not.

Jay Rayner@jayrayner1

My report for @ObserverUK: we risk a significant food supply crisis. 3 years of cheaper unchecked imports from the EU have pushed UK farmers out of business. Enviro subsidies are paying farmers not to farm. Now border checks threaten to reduce imports. theguardian.com/food/2024/feb/…

I choose my words carefully; that's the tenanted sector fucked. A green accounting exercise with a total lack of joined up thinking. More pressure on fewer & fewer farmed acres, with the balance of food imported regardless of that impact. A quick city £ making scheme.
Geoff Sansome@HawfordFarm

Forever building mountains of worm feed. By increasing our cattle numbers we have reduced our synthetic fertiliser usage by 2/3rds. That’s roughly £20k. Waiting for shed builders but this should be and will be covered. Reducing nutrient loss
