There’s been a lot of false reporting about Cynthia West @Cyntaxed007 and the money involved in her situation with Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie, her ex-boyfriend. During my exclusive interview with Cynthia, I set the record straight.
Why did Thomas Massie give Cynthia West $10,000 in an envelope?
Simple: to get her to quit her job and move from Florida to DC so she could be close to him. The money was given to Ms. West so she could move and take care of her family at the same time as a single mom in case her job with @RepSpartz fell through. This is when Thomas and Cynthia were dating.
Massie called it “The DC Experiment” according to Ms. West.
Shortly afterwards, she gave Massie the 10k back in an envelope at a Cracker Barrel because “I am not a transaction”, Ms. West said.
It was an act of self-respect and recognition of her own dignity to return the money despite Massie’s attempts to degrade her, sexually objectify her, and strip her of her dignity and self-worth.
This is a common pattern among alleged abusers of women and control freaks. Massie fits the profile to a T. In the moment, it is difficult to recognize these cycles, even for a trained social worker and counselor like Ms. West. And when you add real power to the equation, which Massie has a member of Congress, it can make it nearly impossible.
To all the skeptics and craven political actors who want Massie to win today: Would you want any woman in your own life to have to go through such an experience? What would you do to the man who allegedly had a pattern of abuse?
