Carney is moving ahead on a new pipeline to get Canadian oil to global markets, something Alberta has been demanding for years.
And yet, Alberta is STILL complaining.
First it was “we need pipelines.” Now it’s “not this one,” “not fast enough,” or “not good enough.”
At some point it stops being about pipelines and starts looking like a province that just wants to be perpetually mad no matter what happens.

@SamBlackettAB @gerwingtim Not really breaking news Sam, just super ironic.
Chumbawumba is a band with strong Marxist leanings who also have strong feelings about the right engaging with their music.

A rare evening post from @the_lineca, by Clarke Ries:
"It’s now obvious that despite Smith’s claims of fealty to Canada, she’s either an éminence grise within the separatist faction or so politically beholden to their grasp on the UCP that her personal values are irrelevant."

@LawyerBuchanan There is only one thing about Ezra Levant that I respected - he realized he wasn’t a lawyer and surrendered his license so he didn’t have to follow the Rules of Professional Conduct. Rath should do likewise.

This is the most important, most brilliant, and most well written thing you could read today.
If you’re an Albertan, or a Canadian, and read nothing else, fine. Just read this.
Goodness me. Every word. readtheline.ca/p/clarke-ries-…

A fresh start from my former account, @BertaBSDetector, because there are neo-nazis to fight in Northern Alberta.
A special shout out to skinhead @DarylfromPR from @CanadianNatural for making this necessary.
Bring it on, Daryl.

Insane quote from Hal Hewett, one of the directors of the new company started by the co-owner of Universal Ostrich Farms, who also happens to be VP of the separatist group BC Prosperity Project

From the ruling:
"It is the Government, as the party that would implement succession, that must engage in consultation."

@JeremyAppel1025 Bad decision, won't stand. The duty to consult should not be placed on citizen petitions, it's a total affront to the right of speech and peaceful assembly. The onus is on the government to consult before the petition can lead to a referendum.

Good question.
The answer is: because they can’t get elected to dog catcher in Alberta.
They’ve been trying for 45 years.
At least a dozen separatist parties have contested federal and provincial elections in Alberta since 1980.
They’ve only won one seat, in 1982, which they promptly lost.
In 2021, at the height of Justin Trudeau’s unpopularity, the separatist Maverick Party got 25,000 votes in all of Western Canada, fewer than 1,000 votes per contested riding.
A few months ago, the two separatists who ran against Pierre Poilievre in Crowfoot got 1.7% of the vote between them, a pretty typical result for separatists on federal and provincial ballots since they started their spectacular losing streak circa 1980.
So since Albertans keep rejecting them in overwhelming numbers, they’re trying to take over a party that was founded with a commitment to a strong Alberta within a united Canada.
Tyler Shandro@shandro
Nothing in Justice Leonard’s decision prohibits separatists from running a separatist party with a separatist platform in the next general election. Democracy lives through long established processes for democratic participation. Why won’t separatists run on a separatist platform in a general election?

We have a Premier that calls a court decision to uphold the rule of law as "undemocratic" as she simultaneously attempts to gerrymander our legislature for her political benefit. She is the personification of hypocrisy.

This is what local accountability looks like:
In Festus, Missouri, a town of about 14,000 people, the city council quietly approved a $6 billion Ai data center to be built on 360 acres just north of Highway 67.
Residents say they were never properly heard. Meetings were held in private. Documents were released too late. A week after the approval, the town held a regular election. Voter turnout jumped 129 percent.
Every single council member who had voted yes lost in a landslide. A 70-year-old first-time candidate beat an 8-year incumbent by 40 percentage points.
Now a recall petition is circulating to remove the mayor as well. The lawsuit against the city is already filed.
Has your local government ever been held accountable like this? 🔥
