Unless Australia is going to start importing oil directly from Russia if the Strait of Hormuz stays shut, fuel restrictions are inevitable in Australia.
That’s the only additional supply out there Australia can buy, but they’re stupid and won’t do this.

The 90–95% figure for refined products (petrol/diesel) is accurate, but it only refers to local processing (refining), not total self-sufficiency in raw crude oil extraction. We would still be in the same position if Hormuz closed back then.

Upwards of 95% of our fuel was processed here. We were independent. Powerful. And insulated from global conflict.
If this war had happened then, we wouldn’t even blink.
