@natejb2003 @Banda821011 @StatisticUrban In fairness he went to Aberystwyth uni from a private school background; has a v strange work cv; & as a party leader didn't know the difference between national debt & deficit. Is it so unreasonable to suggest he might not be one of his generation's very foremost thinkers?

@Banda821011 @StatisticUrban If you genuinely think Polanski is thicker than Farage, Starmer, Rayner, Reeves, Badenoch, Streeting, Jenrick or Truss, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

What a lot of Americans cheering on the Greens don’t understand is that the leadership of the UK Greens is stupid. I don’t mean this as a value judgement. They are genuinely unintelligent. The gap between them and AOC or Mamdani is a chasm.

@AaronBastani before too long, most small shops will have most stuff behind barriers & most large ones will be like 'amazon fresh' outlets, will only let you in if you're a member whose card details they have, & you're free to walk out with what you like because you'll be charged for it anyway

2 Coops near us close. Why? Industrial scale shoplifting by large groups of people in halfway houses nearby. Their ‘treatment’ fails them. Now business & jobs are gone too. But the Telegraph editor is writing about… saving US empire. Why Hannah Spencer won in Gorton folks…!

@Djoko_UTD how so? look at the list of all time earning boxers. names like Mayweather, Pacquiao, De La Hoya... all would be badly overmatched against a journeyman heavyweight, but people really enjoyed watching them fight.

@ShalaTigre @Chamaerion @robprogressive he's singing from the perspective of a representative of the inland revenue. top earners like the Beatles faced a very top marginal rate which, combined with a surcharge on investment income, arguably did to some extent amount to a 95% tax.

Earn it? Taxed. Spend it? Taxed. Save it? Taxed. Invest it? Taxed. Build it? Taxed. Sell it? Taxed. Live in it? Taxed. Drive it? Taxed. Eat it? Taxed. Drink it? Taxed. Smoke it? Taxed. Give it away? Taxed. Die? Still taxed. And what do they do with it? Waste it. This has to stop - our money & our future are being taxed into oblivion.

@NathanpmYoung @Victoria_Spratt it almost certainly did increase the number of new houses built, but for the reasons you state that's not 'increasing supply' but, rather, increasing demand and moving slightly further along the supply curve

Yesterday, @Victoria_Spratt argued Housing doesn’t follow the laws of supply and demand. She is likely wrong. Let’s consider supply and demand:

@RachelTreviso @sjarmitage @DuncanWeldon @AndrewSabisky Im really interested in this. Is the home ownership thing a uniquely Tory benefit? Do people who own homes think that a Labour government will take it away? Is pocket politics really the only motivating factor in people's voting choices? I don't get it?

This week I went to what we now have to call “the red wall”. If you step out of the town centres that have often seen better days, what you find is loads of developments full of home owning families. economist.com/britain/2021/0…

@craigfairbrass @Wadsy_82 I think Lenny was possibly flattering himself a little when he described you in his book as "a good looking bastard, like I was at his age". I wouldn't have said this to his face, obviously.

@tiredold @PhilLUFC anyone vs WBA is a credible pick, TOT & scu in weeks 2 & 3 respectively looking particularly tempting. I suppose I'm not really interested in picking SHU because they're, y'know, just not that good. think i'll go with City.

@PhilLUFC @tiredold OK. Well there's nothing at all appealing for me in 'round 4A' [two very tight games + three games where I've previously picked the stronger team], suppose I'll go with something from 4B. Will worry about it after the cup games.

@PhilLUFC @tiredold hopefully Chelsea somehow contrive to lose to Morecambe, both because of the hilarity that'd entail & because it'd presumably mean a new head coach who at least some of their squad wouldn't, at least initially, despise.
