@cturnbull1968 Passport is not required. Birth certificate or naturalization papers whatever is appropriate for you. You can easily get copy of birth certificate from the appropriate town hall. In hours if you go there personally or a week or two if online or via snail mail.

If every American voter, without a passport, decided to get a passport, as their primary form of ID, it would take 5 years to fill the requests. But Republicans want this to be in effect before the midterms. They know this, of course, so it’s obvious voter suppression.

@politicsusa46 No one needs to a passport to vote. A passport is just one thing you could choose to use to prove you’re a citizen when you register to vote. You could also use your birth certificate or contact the town hall where you were born and request a copy. Not needed to vote!

Just as a gentle reminder, the Save Act is NOT common sense, it’s a poll tax. If this bill passes, it will require up to an estimated 21 million voters, to pay to vote, by being required to purchase a passport or other required form of identification. The inevitable result will be that some people will literally be unable to afford to participate in their constitutional right to cast a ballot. Rest assured they will purge voter rolls to force reregistration and some states are already passing their own laws to achieve the same objectives as the act. @RepAprilDelaney You are a morons you are misstating what is required. Proof of citizenship is only required once when you vote. New copies of required documents can be gotten from town halls in the case of birth and marriage certificates and from US government for naturalization papers.

The SAVE America Act could stop millions of eligible Americans from voting—including married women whose names have changed, veterans, and seniors. This isn’t election security. It’s Donald Trump dismantling the right to vote.

Republicans are lying to the American people when they say the SAVE Act is a voter ID law—it’s a proof-of-citizenship requirement that would make voting harder, if not impossible, for a lot of people. Passports are expensive, documents don’t always match, and the process can be a mess (been there). We should be making voting easier, not adding more hurdles. Democrats can own this by proposing their own bill that accepts a range of IDs, and includes automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday for starters.
