Ai Counsel
Ai Counsel@cyrusjohnson·
12 Distilled Points, AI Counsel 1. LLMs always hallucinate. 2. Ai is neither private, nor confidential, nor privileged per se. 3. Plaintiff's attorneys will access what is in LLMs (inputs, outputs, identities) and there will be legal actions brought [and you will never know]. 4. It is the BEST time in history to be in Law. 5. We are not adding technology to law practice. Law practice is being invented right now and is wholly NEW. 6. People who write code are not competent to create AI for Law. 7. What matters most, even more than the application, is the DATA used. As your provider if they are a "wrapper on an LLM" and you'll know their databases include non-legal things like Reddit and YouTube. 8. Only lawyers can build best AI for Law. 9. Ergo, every lawyer must be a builder. 10. You CAN build. It is not hard today. Either on your own or just make a friend. 11. Do not "just put your law firm on Claude." You will have many many problems in the future. 12. AI for Law is a "privileged class of AI." It is more important than the others. * Adapted from my Mar 2025 talk to Canadian lawyers "The Proper Care and Feeding of LLMs (for Lawyers)."

Today’s plan is to hike New Orleans’s famous “Shia LeBeouf Trail,” which is all the dive bars with confirmed Shia sightings during Mardi Gras as he made his way east to his ultimate arrest at R Bar

@p_dove @willchen500 I will, once I finish up the testing/QC on current project: taking draft settlement orders, parsing/mapping to affidavit templates + deterministic affidavit generation. Helpful for high volume comp practices

Spent some time last night building with @willchen500’s friend Mike Not-Ross. This is so much fun. I feel like with another six or so hours (between me and Claude, obvi) I can have this thing really clicking for me. Lawyers who have not yet vibe coded yourself a custom tool - come on in the water’s fine!

When i finally find the love of my life i do not want the wedding to be sponsored by a bank. I want it to be sponsored by the military industrial complex. If you're gonna do it go all the way.

In 2019 I broke the story of influencers doing branded engagements/weddings. Today, turning your wedding post into sponcon for Capital One is normal and fans are excited about the brand deal.

Just met with a group of blue collar builders in a vacuum store… I never thought I would be talking AI with folks in the trades on a Saturday in a vacuum store…. (yes i did) I’m now even more convinced that the future of vertical software will be built by the trades themself.

@jonallie As someone in law, this + pattern match + taste-making of implementation is exactly where I am at.

Personal rule of thumb: don't use an LLM for something that a deterministic program can do. I get it, LLMs are exciting, but they don't mean that software ceases to exist. They are fantastic at dealing with human language and ambiguity, but are terrible (by design and for good reason) at repeatability. To borrow terminology from the book Thinking Fast and Slow, LLMs are "system 2"...slower, more "expensive" (for LLMs, both in time and dollars), but flexible and creative. Traditional programs are "system 1" ..fast and cheap, but inflexible and dumb. Instead of trying to put an LLM in the "hot loop" of your program, it's usually worth asking an agent to write a deterministic program to do the thing you need done. Since code is "cheap", this deterministic tool can do exactly what you want it to, and doesn't consume tokens on every execution. (This applies to agents too..I find myself regularly yelling at Claude to stop repeatedly generating the same 30 lines of python to inspect a file, and instead telling it to generate a 3-line shell script wrapper around jq that it can check in and call repeatedly)
