One thing I would love to communicate to rich progressive donors is you have to fund ACTUAL JOURNALISM. All the progressive "content creators" rely on actual journalism done by journalists who are all getting laid off. Please fund journalism not just "our own kind of propaganda."

@charlotter_yder @ChristianityOn I assume you’re specifically referencing some kind of Extremely Online discourse I missed, but it does genuinely suck to be an adult with a bedtime set by someone else’s preferences and convenience.

@charlotter_yder @ChristianityOn The right to go to bed when you want is actually a real issue faced by disabled people living in higher support settings, where staff convenience might outweigh individual preference/be unnecessarily restrictive.

The hostility towards “autism moms” is sort of fascinating, given that “autistic” and “mom” are not discrete categories at all even a little bit.

@Neurofucked_ The people fighting for “profound autism” and nitty gritty terminology changes are also pretty marginal, just in a different direction (or a couple different directions) politically. Almost none of what you’re describing means anything to 99% of people.

@slooterman The reason why the ‘autism moms’ are so up in arms, fighting for a new category like ‘profound autism’ is, in part, bc white low support needs autistic ppl in the ‘neurodiversity community’ are pushing misinformation about level 2/3 autism, regularly The Neurodiversity

The most popular set of views these days is 1) I don’t trust the legacy media 2) I completely trust and will build a new personal philosophy around any vertical video I see.

@Neurofucked_ Most people in the US barely even know what autism is, let alone what neurodiversity is. Online is a really small, non-representative sliver of reality.

@slooterman Neurodiversity paradigm / movement has a lot in common with maha and the antipsych community. Ppl in the Uk say it’s impacting their politics in some ways. I think the neurodiversity community is hurting autistic ppl in the US for similar reasons.

@ashleysbored I am aware there are different kinds of autism and different kinds of OCD and sometimes people are more than one of those things.

@ashleysbored In no way meant to be dismissive — I know I was oversimplifying the OCD and autism thought processes for similar behaviors.

People's characterization of OCD compulsions are "if I don't wash my hands all my family will die" which sounds ridiculous. It's actually "there's a chance I came into contact with e. coli and if I don't wash my hands I will spread it all over the kitchen and my family will die"

@ashleysbored @ChristianityOn FWIW OCD is a really common misdiagnosis among autistic women. The rigidity/unwillingness to deviate from routine or specific fork without getting *really* upset about it is at least kind of similar. The cognitive process behind it is what’s different.

Guy with undiagnosed autism and diagnosed ADHD or OCD: "I think they'll merge the categories with autism one day because they are just so similar, I relate so much to my autistic friends, who I am of course not one of"
