This post is so funny because half the people posting it mean like “increase construction by 20%” and half mean like “commit mass genocide”

@crushmarxismnow this seems like it's probably because white people are a majority in the us, and so basically the default. i feel if you asked chinese people in china or indians in india or whatever this same question they would have a similar response that being that race isn't that important.

@ZMMYFIRSTMAP @jonathanle13 @JEmCeeKnight @prerat why is it not possible? everyone who argues for blue is doing it to save some mysterious other person. who are these people that need saving? i don’t think it is unreasonable to assume a large group of people who all understand what the buttons are would all press red.

@jonathanle13 @JEmCeeKnight @snow_goons @prerat No blue is choosing to participate in the only possible practice outcome that results in zero deaths, blue majority. And don't say "well it's everyone presses red" because that's simply not possible

it was interesting that the comments for both of these were full of people saying "see everyone, this OBVIOUSLY clarifies the original problem!!!" not realizing the other poll with the opposite result existed too

@JEmCeeKnight @prerat in the original, by choosing red, i am choosing not to risk my life to save someone else from an external threat. i don't believe this equates to me actively murdering someone.

@snow_goons @prerat No, the murder is present in the original, too, but it requires more than two neurons to connect so you recognize that blue minority = red majority

@Musturursad @prerat yes, me choosing red is based on the idea that everyone choosing actually understands what the options are. if there are toddlers participating who just randomly hit buttons, i don't think there is any need to debate this because the answer is obviously blue

@snow_goons @prerat Fair. Out of genuin interest. Would children and infants being part of the vote affect your vote?

@Musturursad @prerat sure, in terms of people dying. but me guaranteeing my survival by choosing not to risk my life to save someone else's life from an external threat is very different from me guaranteeing my survival by actively killing someone else myself.

@Staladus i feel like the chances of convincing 100% of people to act in their best interests is not that different from convincing more than half the world's population to act not in their best interests.

I have no idea why you would press the red button. It's 100% vs 51% the answer is clear here.

@EleanorSkye @tautologer i am considering this from the perspective of myself voting privately, assuming i have no impact on others' votes. i am assuming that the votes of everyone else are already set, i just don't know what they are. thus from my perspective, i could either be the deciding vote or not.

@snow_goons @tautologer Well no. It’s a blind simultaneous vote, you don’t know anyone else’s vote ahead of time. There is no such thing as a deciding vote in this scenario, every single vote is equally responsible as a deciding vote.

@waitbutwhy i dont think there is any reason to pick blue, because your pick doesn't affect the outcome. you personally can press blue or red and final result will be the exact same. so the consequences to others is irrelevant to the decision, because you personally have no impact on that

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@CinemaWinner but there is no reason to pick blue, because your pick doesn't affect the final outcome. with over 8 billion players, you personally can vote blue or red and final result will be the exact same. so why would you pick blue?

It’s simple to me. If you believe 100% of people will pick red, pick red. If you believe even 1 person will pick blue, you should pick blue. I think >50% will know the second is the actual reality and they’ll pick blue.

@JeremiahDJohns what does "winning" a fight mean in this case? i could potentially lose a fight against a rat unarmed just because I wouldn't want to touch the rat.

Can't decide which is crazier - the guy who thinks he could beat a grizzly bear, or the guy who thinks he'd lose a fight to a rat.

@MattBrownEP if any team was in a position where this would be helpful for them to do, the other team would immediately do it after as well and the game would end up in the same exact position
