I'm currently looking for contract opportunities in the Laravel or WordPress sphere. Or if not that then the "Make Claude do things" sphere. Either's good. Need a developer who's got 15 years of experience dealing with tangled legacy codebases and willing to put up with more? That's me! Got a site that even Claude won't fix? Point me at it. Available for 1-3 day/week openings, remote (I'll commute a few miles within Edinburgh. Maybe further if the coffee's good. Rest of the world's a bit of a stretch) Get in touch, let's chat.

@cotterzz I mean, there's not a huge number of things I hate about it at the moment. I easily hate Windows more now (last couple of years = urgh), so on balance it's a pretty great machine!

@cotterzz Currently typing this on a MacBook. Stunning battery life (slowly discovering all the things about the OS I hate) It's probably the only device aside from a Kindle I'd throw in a bag and forget the charger for

It's kinda like a Twilight Zone episode or something. Infinite potential, but everyone's ability to spark joy in themselves is absolutely cooked. Decision fatigued zombies stumbling through the Garden of Endless Delights The future doesn't belong to the AI enthusiasts. It belongs to the people who have retained even a shred of their innate ability to experience wonder and novelty.

@ptr The best things now are the things that are interesting to no-one but yourself.

@tekbog Also terrifying in novel and unpredictable ways. The future will veer widly between those two states. Just stay inside on the bad days.

@loftwah The idea that you need to fill and sign forms in proprietary software has surely got to be one of the last major enterprise tech gatekeeping niches. "Type your name" as proof of anything in the era of quantm cryptography is insane.

I'd pretty much only ever use skills I'd created myself and skills are not much more than just "write that down plz" so I think the point still stands. It's all markdown. There seems to be a clear distinction between "I use a small number of skills that are useful" and "I install a thousand skills like they were WordPress plugins and hope for the best"

@maddoxrules @Adobe @Photoshop Nobody: Absolutely nobody: Adobe: hey so what if we had a feature that simulated a sudden electrical storm

I've shit on @Adobe @Photoshop for being catastrophically bad, but they've actually added a really cool feature if you want to shut down your PC immediately without saving any of your work and possibly damaging your hard drive: just install v27.8 and hit "remove background" and your system will have such a violent fault that it won't even blue-screen. Great job guys!

@srimalireddi @juliarturc It’s very obvious how pricing works. They overpromise and undersupply then gaslight everyone into paying more.

@juliarturc Everyone, including frontier labs, is trying to figure out how pricing works. Engineering and product releases are outpacing the decisions around packaging and pricing.

@juliarturc We’re a long way off from AI becoming a commodity like electricity and truly revolutionising anything. At the moment it’s still just 95% engagement crap and SaaS slop

@emollick It's just not solvable anywhere, full stop. Best we can hope for is that the bot slop actually becomes enjoyable.

At this point, I’ve given up hope that X’s bot-reply problem is solvable. The “the part no one says” writing is annoying, but worse is that they all make similar points. Proposal: X should measure semantic distance in latent space and surface replies that offer actual variation.

@Aobius @AmanitaFugax I don't know what kind of shitty car she drives... But anything built within the last 40 years in a developed country (so: not US) can easily cruise on its higher gears for anything between regular city speed and open country road.

Currently taking on fresh projects - if anyone needs an assist with CMS work (Laravel, WordPress, most other PHP frameworks), I handle the sticky stuff everyone else hates. Even the AIs Happy to look through fresh projects or jump into existing ones. > solarise.dev

This is the golden age man. I built a desktop app that I use all day, every single day. And not just me! I built an app that developers live in to do their work. All with no prior desktop app experience. Never doom

@TheCriticalDri2 Took a drive along an insanely narrow twisty Scottish highland road this afternoon in a manual. Literally the most relaxing thing I can think of to do. It’s bliss. Absolute focus zone.
