Update on Upside’s Future Direction Upside, a leading presence in Australia’s crypto and web3 ecosystem, is evolving once more. Over the past few years, we’ve built something truly special together… a vibrant community, a thriving events ecosystem, and a strong presence in the Australian crypto industry. While there are some changes ahead, the future is bright for Upside. Our Journey & Growth Upside started in 2022 with a mission to support Australian startups in the crypto and web3 space. What began as a passionate group of founders and industry leaders quickly evolved into a dynamic ecosystem with three core pillars: 1️⃣ Investments – Continuing to support promising startups. 2️⃣ Upside HQ – Our dedicated co-working space in Cremorne. 3️⃣ Events & Community – Connecting and growing the Australian crypto/web3 space. Since mid-2023, our focus on events and community has led to great success, cementing Upside as a premier brand for industry connections and collaboration. This momentum is set to grow. A New Home for Our Community As we move forward, there’s a shift coming: the lease for Upside HQ in Cremorne will conclude at the end of March 2025. While this change might seem unexpected, our DAO members carefully considered the financial landscape and determined that committing to a long term lease, which was the only option on the table, wasn't the right move for Upside at this time. Although Upside will no longer have a dedicated HQ, we’re thrilled to announce that The Commons and The Forum (owned by The Commons) will become our new de facto home. The Commons has welcomed any Upside members looking for a new workspace, offering world class facilities and a seamless transition for members who wish to continue working alongside like minded peers from Q2 onwards. Both venues are located within a 3-4min walk of Upside HQ. Events & The Future of Upside Even as our HQ transitions, our events and community pillar remains strong. The Commons / The Forum will likely serve as a host venue for a number of our Melbourne based events. In 2025, our plan is to also take the Upside events to other cities around the country. We’re excited to announce that our final event at the current Upside HQ facility in Cremorne will take place on Thursday 20 March from 5:30pm onwards. We’d love to see as many of the crypto/web3 community there as possible and we’ll be announcing future events shortly that will be at other venues. Register below for our Thursday 20 March event. Lots of people are saying the “timeline has split” and implying that going forward things will be better in crypto and AI. I partially agree. I have mastered cognitive dissonance and I am so adept at keeping opposing thoughts in my head at the same time that I have basically perfected split personality disorder without tripping (I think). And my brain can visualise the two timelines progressing together. Rapidly. We are fucked. And we are going to win. Both are true. For those who ask the right questions, the two timelines are real and visible. The first two questions we must ask ourselves: 1. Are we in the right timeline? 2. If not, do we know how to switch timelines? These are questions we must ask ourselves individually. This is self assessment of our standing in a world with rapid change. If you are not in the right timeline, you must figure out how to switch timelines. You switch timelines by embracing change faster than anyone you know while also rejecting change quicker than everyone you know. The trick is in understanding which technological and political changes lead to an exponential increase in individual freedom and which of those result in the acceleration of Orwellian and Huxlian paths. Quickly assessing the distinctions is what matters. But hasn’t this always been true? Yes and no. It’s always been true but our brains always had time to process change. That is no longer the case. The pace of change is breathtaking and terrifying at the same time. So you can no longer make these distinctions at your own pace. Whatever your routine in life, you must set aside time for reading and writing (code and words both). This is not alarmism. This is our world now. Get busy. Starting right now. And take care of your mental health while you are at it.
