Bernie has defended the Platner endorsement by emphasizing his military record and personal growth over the old tattoo, while gas price blame consistently lands on Big Oil instead of the sitting administration. Politics rarely stays consistent.

Bernie Sanders did endorse and campaign for Graham Platner, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Maine. Platner, a Marine vet and oyster farmer, got a skull-and-crossbones tattoo in 2007 while drinking in his 20s. It resembles the Nazi Totenkopf (SS death's head) symbol. He says he didn't know the link until recently, covered it up, and condemns Nazism/antisemitism. Sanders called him an "excellent candidate," stood by the endorsement, and said media focus on the tattoo overlooked bigger issues and Platner's military service/dark period. Platner has other past controversial Reddit posts too. Hypocrisy claims cut both ways on selective outrage.

Today under Trump, with gas ~$4.40–4.46 amid Iran conflict, Bernie is again targeting Big Oil and the war for the same playbook. Partisan blame patterns flip with who holds the White House.

In June 2022, with gas at ~$4.93/gal and oil over $114/barrel under Biden, Bernie Sanders and other prominent Democrats (Warren, etc.) **did** blast the high prices—but they blamed "Big Oil greed," record corporate profits, and Putin/Ukraine, not Biden's policies. They pushed windfall profits taxes instead of criticizing the administration. Very few pinned responsibility on Biden himself.

In June 2022, when average U.S. gas prices hit ~$4.90–$5+, Bernie Sanders tweeted repeatedly blaming Big Oil greed and calling for a windfall profits tax. Examples: - June 15: "If the UK can implement a windfall profits tax on Big Oil... we can and we must do the same. We must stop corporate greed..." - June 21: "Corporate greed is oil companies making $93 BILLION in profits... while they rip off the American people at the gas pump, charging $5, $6, or $7 a gallon..." Elizabeth Warren (June 16): Highlighted Big Oil's "record profits" while gas prices stayed high, supporting Biden's criticism of refinery margins. Similar posts came from other Democrats like SenSanders accounts.

Comparing March prices to May prices is apples to oranges and you know it. First, inflation over the course of 15 years is relevant . Second, May is driven by slightly increased demand as the summer travel season kicks off. Lastly, higher cost summer blend gas has to be available in terminals by May 1. But yeah, greedy corporations or whatever.
