@KevEdwardsRetro As a practical computer...utterly crap, as an educational powerhouse, utterly brilliant. My first BASIC, my first machine code and my first understanding of the basics of computing. My career started right there

Happy birthday to the Sinclair ZX81 - launched on the 5th March 1981 (43 years). For many people in the UK it was their first home computer and one of the reasons they work in the computer industry today. Available ready built, or as a kit, as many machines from that period were

Fact of the Day: Vulcan pilots on the Fast Aerial Response Team were given Ferraris as company cars so that they could respond to scrambles (Sorry Sophie) quicker. Crews could be scrambled (Sorry Sophie) in just 800.85mins! Photographed from a Canberra

Here's a genuine, old nursery rhyme book from 1982 that we were given recently with lots of other books. I have decided not to read this to my grandson. You'll see why. Very, very dark.

@0xC0DE6502 Exactly the same as Asteroids in the arcades. Whilst the % chance may be different, you can just randomly die as well as appearing on an asteroid

Acornsoft Meteors fun fact #1. Did you ever swear at the screen or hit Ctrl+Break in anger because sometimes your spaceship explodes after a hyperjump, even when no meteors are near? Turns out this is by design! A hyperjump will fail on purpose ~15.6% of the time

@HillF1 The Ligier JS11 from 1979 is quite simply the most beautiful F1 car ever made. Doubt it will ever be surpassed

This 40-year-old quiz from CRASH magazine is one for the really old folks. How many of these sprites can you identify? I got the lot. But then again, I remember reading this in the back of my parents car in 1984. So weird I can remember that - but not what I had for dinner...

Crazy shooter NARC also featured new tech - digitized sprites that went on to become popular in games like Mortal Kombat and Pit Fighter. Apache 3, Op Thunderbolt, Ikari III, Metal Hawk, Tetris, and Splatterhouse were more traditional arcade fare. I really loved the latter! 2/2

@0xC0DE6502 Can't imagine how stressful it must be to know someone is unpicking your 35-40 year old code 😂🤣.... balanced of course by the fact that someone is interested in unpicking your 35-40 year old code!

It's a thing of beauty when a retro game is fully disassembled and fully understood. Sensible function and variable names have been added. Like getting into the mind of the original game dev. Bonus points for spotting unused data/code, minor bugs and possible optimisations

@TerribleMaps Misleading—The reality is that there is not a national law in the US Federalized system. There are various state laws and typically companies offer maternity leave whether required by law or not. It’s very common for companies to offer maternity leave.

I’m driving the BYD Dolphin and it’s all very pleasant, but I think the drive selector rocker switch is back-to-front. My mate says it’s logical. Who is right? It’s bothering me (more than it should).

@BreakIntoProg @HumansNoContext And took me so long to work why my scrolling asteroids avoiding BASIC program occasionally ran out of memory...using just enough memory to cover the spaces to the left would do it when those asteroids were randomly spaced...thats proper coding education right there....
