A day after two men were stabbed in Golders Green, the latest sign of radicalised antisemitism, @BritishVogue featured a glowing interview with the UN’s chief antisemite @FranceskAlbs What this piece put in, and more importantly what it left out, reveals how normalised subtle antisemitism can be and - as a journalist, I’m ashamed to say - the media’s own role in it. I want to show you what I mean: A 🧵

The vile racists I witnessed in Corbyn’s Labour are now in the Greens. Polanski has to get a grip.

Nonsense. Governments of all persuasions have often whipped business like this. It’s entirely up to the government to decide. And as a point of fact, there was no vote on referring Boris Johnson as it was decided without division and Johnson didn’t even turn up to defend himself.
Beth Rigby@BethRigby

On back of @Steven_Swinford news that Speaker will allow vote, a senior Labour figure messages to point out it was a free vote when Boris Johnson referred & this ‘Commons business so should not be whipped’ Says whipping MPs to vote to avoid security is problematic…

Three factors at play here: 1. Labour retained moderating forces in shape of parliamentary party and traditional activists. Those are tiny in Greens 2. Greens' vetting is non-existent 3. Corbyn would at least pay lip-service to tackling antisemitism. Polanski doesn't give a toss

The amount of extremist antisemitic candidates the Green Party have is far larger than labour under corbyn had

I'm frankly astonished by today's crass briefings calling for @ShabanaMahmood to be sacked as Home Secretary. She's one of the most effective and impressive cabinet ministers and her efforts to control immigration are essential to Labour winning back the trust of voters in constituencies like North Durham.

Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine has killed thousands of civilians. He’s threatened the use of nuclear weapons. He’s attempting to erase Ukrainian identity and culture. And he’s forcibly deported children. Zack Polanski should be ashamed of this comment.

Zac Polanski’s comments that Putin ‘has never threatened to wipe out a civilisation’ are a disgrace. In March, the UN concluded that Putin’s government is committing crimes against humanity through the forcible deportation of, at least, 20,570 Ukrainian children.

The abuse I get from Reform/Restore types and Green/Your Party types every time I post something about supporting the Labour Party. I'm a social democrat passionate about tackling climate change. All your posts do is show me I'm unsuited to the extremes of British politics.

Will Kemi be visiting #Sandwell? @sandwellcouncil is only the top performing Local Highways Authority in the West Midlands for fixing potholes (& ranked 4th nationally). So good, even @TheSun recognised #Labour Sandwell’s exceptional performance! She should come to Sandwell where Labour Councillors consistently get things done and learn how it’s done.

Encouraging to see colleagues standing up for the excellent Hollie Ridley
Aubrey Allegretti@breeallegretti

Exc: Labour war erupts over our story - with female Labour MPs attacking "misogyny" and "scapegoating" of Hollie Ridley, the party's general secretary. Lucy Powell, Labour's deputy leader, wrote in the Women's PLP WhatsApp group today in response to our story: "It's unacceptable to brief against colleagues at all, but to brief against staff who have no public platform to defend themselves is particularly bad". She adds: "I had hoped we were moving past this kind of behaviour." Stronger words from Siobhain McDonagh: "Hollie is doing a tough job in difficult circumstances. If we lose badly in May it is certainly not her fault. It's ours. I have been here before when ambitious politicians decide that the female General Secretary is fair game. It doesn't end well for anyone. If any[one] wants to leak this post please make sure you spell my name correctly! Siobhain McDonagh." Alex Davies-Jones, a minister, adds: "It's made me very angry... I thought we'd addressed the issue of briefing against women. It's disheartening and reeks of misogyny." Anna Turley, the Labour chair, writes: "Horrified by the piece. Hollie is one of the most impressive people I've ever worked with... She also organised an incredible campaign at G&D [Gorton and Denton] - it broke records for the mobilisation - and any shortcomings are not hers." Allison Gardner asks: "Are they setting her up to be the scapegoat" To which Ashley Dalton responds: "This has been on the cards for months. Fuming." Emily Darlington adds: "Funny that this is the only MP WhatsApp group that is upset at this..." Amanda Martin says: "Totally outrageous once again [to] try to lay blame at feet of a cracking woman." x.com/Geri_E_L_Scott…

All the polling shows that the immigration changes the Government is proposing are popular with voters, including even those voting Green. Multiple factors are driving our weak poll numbers, esp cost of living. Being "too tough" on immigration isn't one of them, and being serious about controlling immigration is critical to holding "Red Wall" seats vs Reform.

“The very survival of the Labour Party is at stake," Angela Rayner warned in a major intervention on Tuesday night The former deputy prime minister told soft left Labour group Mainstream that the party was "running out of time" She also criticised "un-British" immigration reforms, saying they'd “pull the rug” from migrants already in the UK, reports @siennamarla politicshome.com/news/article/a…

Very good news that the government has accepted the Fingleton Review on nuclear power in full to speed up building, reduce costs and advance energy sovereignty. It’s the exact repudiation of Clegg’s 2010 declaration that nuclear is “not even an answer”.
