@MamaCAllen It definitely is relevant. The church is likely having issues finding senior missionaries to serve internationally because some aren't willing to get the required vaccines. We've talked to friends and they are not willing to serve because of vaccines. It's an issue.

I have a question about mission papers and vaccinations. (This is NOT a discussion about the pros/cons of vaccinating, so please keep those comments to yourself.) The 17 year old is starting her mission papers and is not up to date on vaccinations. We stopped vaccinating her after her 9 month shots and she's not had any since. She knows that means she's limited to stateside service, which she's totally fine with. She really doesn't want to get vaccinated. Is there anyone else who's served a full time mission and has not been vaccinated at all? There's conflicting info about opting out, so I'd love to connect with someone who's been in this position. We've talked to our bishop and he came to the same conclusion, that it sounds like you can opt out completely, but the answer to this second question is what confused us. Anyone have any insights?

@genXcessive @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy Obviously this was my question and you pointed me to the words of Paul (1 Corinthians and Romans) who also said it's best not to touch women. "Where did Jesus say people are released from marriage at death?"

@spiffyman @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy Obviously, I was talking about when Jesus said there was no marriage in heaven (Matthew 22:30). If you’re going to say you just can’t get married in heaven but you can be married, then that would mean Jesus was lying by omission. I can’t accept that.

I still think about the protestant wedding I went to years ago where the pastor had the bride and groom say "til death do us part" then right after having them kiss goes on to explain that rings are a circle to symbolize eternity....

@genXcessive @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy 3. You said Jesus said it, but then you point me to something that Paul wrote. Paul is not Jesus. By your logic you must also believe that Jesus said it is not good for man to touch a woman. Are you living that?

@spiffyman @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy 1. I think we’ll all love each other equality in heaven (I don’t think that’s a bold statement) 2. No one’s married in heaven, this makes sense when you see what question Jesus was answering. 3. 1 Corinthians 7:39, Romans 7:2–3

@genXcessive @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy Let me try to restate... 1. You think God will have you love a stranger more than you love your spouse? 2. Jesus did not say no one will be married in heaven. He said no one will get married in heaven. 3. Where did Jesus say people are released from marriage at death?

@spiffyman @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy I don’t think I’ll be married in heaven for a few reasons. I don’t think I’ll love one person more than another in heaven, and (this is the most important one) Jesus said no one will be married in heaven. Also the Bible describes people being released from marriage at death.

@spiffyman @tjsingletonjr @ldsfilmguy Does your “question” require me to know the mind of God? Do you know the mind of God? If you claim to understand how God thinks to make your point, I suggest you read Job 38. No one on earth can grasp how God reasons or what is in heaven.

Is that what he said? I don't think so. He said people would not get married in heaven. Here's a bit more if you want to understand better: "Ben Witherington wrote the following, showing that the question of the eternality or lack thereof of marriage is not in view in Jesus' encounter with the Sadducees; commenting on the Mark parallel found in ch. 12, he wrote: Jesus’ response, which begins at v.24, suggests that the Sadducees are ignorant of both the content of the Hebrew Scriptures and the power of God. Jesus stresses that in the age to come, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Notice what Jesus does not say. He does not say there will be no marriage in the age to come. The use of terms γαμουσιν and γαμαζονται is important, for these terms refer to the gender-specific roles played in early Jewish society by the man and the woman in the process of getting married. The men, being the initiators of the process in such a strongly patriarchal culture, “marry,” while the women are “given in marriage” by their father or another older family member. Thus Mark has Jesus saying that no new marriages will be initiated in the eschatological state. This is surely not the same as claiming that all existing marriages will disappear in the eschatological state (see, for example, Tertullian, On Monogamy 10, who specifically denies that God will separate in the next life those whom he has joined together in a holy union in this one). Jesus, the, could seem to be arguing against a specific view held by the Sadducees about the continuity between this life and the life to come, a view involving the ongoing practice of levirate marriage."

The three main reactions to the Nephilim/giants topic among Latter-day Saints: 1. Dismiss it as purely symbolic or “just a metaphor.” 2. Ignore it completely and hope no one brings it up. 3. Fully embrace it as literal — real beings, real history. Where do you land?

WattEV has just announced that it is deploying 370 @Tesla Semi trucks, the largest single electric truck deployment in California. • ~$100 million worth of Tesla Semis • First 50 Tesla Semis to be delivered in 2026, full fleet by end of 2027 • 300+ of the Tesla Semis will be deployed under a joint program with the Port of Oakland • New Megawatt charging hubs coming in Oakland, Fresno, Stockton & Sacramento • Built to scale zero-emission long-haul freight across key CA corridors “We selected the Tesla Semi based on cost, performance and availability after issuing a public request for proposals,” Salim Youssefzadeh, WattEV’s CEO, announced at the annual ACT Expo industry trade show in Las Vegas today. "With the Tesla Semi now entering mass production and drawing strong reviews from fleet operators nationwide, WattEV’s vertically integrated model – combining vehicle deployment, megawatt-class charging infrastructure, and full-service leasing – offers a turn-key path for carriers without any capital risk." More than 300 of the Tesla Semis will be deployed under a joint program with the Port of Oakland. Delivery of the first 50 Semis coincides with WattEV’s planned opening of truck-charging stations at the Port of Oakland and in Fresno, both equipped with Tesla’s Megawatt Charging System chargers capable of providing 300 miles of range to a Semi in approximately 30 minutes, comparable to a conventional diesel fill-up. Additional depots are scheduled to open this year in Stockton along with Sacramento breaking ground in 2026.

@genXcessive @ldsfilmguy So you believe God will separate you from your spouse? 🤔 Is this the same God that said: "And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." "Therefore a man shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

@ldsfilmguy The rings thing is corny, but the Bible clearly says women are free to remarry after their husband dies. It stands to reason that when one spouse is dead, the marriage is over. Heaven isn’t perfect because your spouse is there; heaven is perfect because God is there.

“Mormon magic underwear.” That’s the phrase people throw around. It gets laughs. It gets clicks. But it’s also a perfect example of how Mormonism is being treated right now, mocked instead of understood. So I’m starting a short series. Not to defend it. Not to attack it. But to deal with it honestly. Let’s talk about what that actually is. Among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the proper name is the temple garment, or garment of the holy priesthood. It is a sacred item tied to covenants made in their temples. Historically, this garment was introduced by Joseph Smith in the 1840s, particularly in Nauvoo. Early versions were very different from what is worn today. They were one-piece garments, extending from wrists to ankles. Those early garments included specific markings sewn into the fabric. That continues today in a simplified form. You’ll typically find markings over the chest, near the navel, and at the knee. In LDS teaching, these point to obedience, sacrifice, and remembrance of covenants. Over time, the garment has changed. It moved from a single piece to two pieces. Materials and cuts have been updated. More recently, there has been internal discussion because newer designs allow different fits, especially for women, including cuts that work with modern clothing. Now here’s where we need to slow down. Christians have no ground to mock sacred clothing. We have our own. Think of the scapular worn by the faithful, resting against the skin as a sign of devotion. Think of the vestments a priest puts on before the liturgy, each piece received with prayer. These are not costumes. They are outward signs of inward realities. The same principle is at work here, even if we disagree with the theology behind it. So critique the theology. Be honest about the differences. But mocking what people hold sacred without understanding it is not strength. It’s just noise.

You need better anti-Mormon material. Whoever gave this to you should be fired for being so lame. Mosiah 26 "29 Therefore I say unto you, Go; and whosoever transgresseth against me, him shall ye judge according to the sins which he has committed; and if he confess his sins before thee and me, and repenteth in the sincerity of his heart, him shall ye forgive, and I will forgive him also. 30 Yea, and as often as my people repent will I forgive them their trespasses against me. 31 And ye shall also forgive one another your trespasses; for verily I say unto you, he that forgiveth not his neighbor’s trespasses when he says that he repents, the same hath brought himself under condemnation. 32 Now I say unto you, Go; and whosoever will not repent of his sins the same shall not be numbered among my people; and this shall be observed from this time forward. 33 And it came to pass when Alma had heard these words he wrote them down that he might have them, and that he might judge the people of that church according to the commandments of God. 34 And it came to pass that Alma went and judged those that had been taken in iniquity, according to the word of the Lord. 35 And whosoever repented of their sins and did confess them, them he did number among the people of the church; 36 And those that would not confess their sins and repent of their iniquity, the same were not numbered among the people of the church, and their names were blotted out. 37 And it came to pass that Alma did regulate all the affairs of the church; and they began again to have peace and to prosper exceedingly in the affairs of the church, walking circumspectly before God, receiving many, and baptizing many."
