Consistency does not mean robotic teaching. It means students do not have to win the teacher lottery. A schoolwide literacy commitment should be visible from classroom to classroom. The goal is not sameness for adults; the goal is reliability for students

The National Council of Teacher Quality will share updated ratings for colleges on June 9th showing how well they prepare teachers to teach reading. Every newspaper, church, boys/girls club, school system, and civil rights group should be on high alert. @NCTQ @HeatherPeske

How do you make ambitious/upwardly mobile doctors, allied health, solicitors and small business owning people decide that the tradeoffs of living regionally are worth it? You make the schools really damn good. My old principal told me this and I've never forgotten it.

@rpondiscio @MrZachG @educationgadfly Especially in my state of Victoria it was practitioners who pushed policymakers rather than the other way around - I think @BenCarrollMP has said so. @buckingham_j was able to use research and educator voices to get policy changes starting with the Phonics Check a decade ago.

A new @educationgadfly study shows the science of reading has largely won the policy argument, but classroom implementation is still lagging. But that may be because it hasn't won the institutions that prepare teachers.
