Apple’s Safari anti-fingerprinting changes misreported iOS 26.2 as 18.7 and iOS 26.1 as 18.6. Patch applied on 19 Jan 2026 to correct Apple-introduced distortion. #daily-20260113-20260120" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gs.statcounter.com/ios-version-ma…

Chatgpt Atlas and Perplexity Comet browsers are both identifying as the Chrome browser. If they identify as themselves in the future, we will track their usage. @OpenAI @perplexity_ai

In AI Chatbot Market Share Worldwide, Mar - May 2025, @ChatGPTapp rules the world! My POV: most (not all) generic chatbots will be shot lived! All indicators show, and if history is a barometer, AI will be woven into applications and operating systems. Definitely the usage will go down for the ones which survive. Why will you copy paste results into other applications if you can have native AI. - ChatGPT 79.83% - Perplexity 11.81% - Microsoft Copilot 5.17% - Google Gemini 1.94% - Deepseek 0.8% - Claude 0.44% Source: @Statcounter’s data covering the period from May 2024 to May 2025. #monthly-202503-202505-map" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gs.statcounter.com/ai-chatbot-mar… @dvellante @furrier @Craw @ShellyKramer @SanjMo @rwang0 @efipm @theCUBE @jonfortt @dee_bosa

🚨 ChatGPT now drives nearly 80% of AI chatbot referrals to websites — leaving Google Gemini in the dust at just 2%, says Statcounter. With AI reshaping how users find your site, are you still betting everything on search? Statcounter’s new report shows where traffic is really coming from—and why marketers should start thinking GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), not just SEO. 📊 See the data → billhartzer.com/ai/chatgpt-now… #DigitalMarketing #AItraffic #ChatGPT #SEO #GEO #Statcounter #WebAnalytics #MarketingStrategy #SearchIsChanging #AIChatbots

Hi @grok @X @elonmusk @ibab @jimmybajimmyba. We'd love to include Grok in this report. Could Grok send a referral header? Website owners & marketers will see when Grok is sending them traffic. We will also be able to publish Grok stats in this report alongside chatgpt & copilot.

While we're on the subject of Android version distribution statistics, Reddit users noticed a pecularity with StatCounter's data. The % of Android 10 users spiked from 16.65% in April to 47.84% in May 2023, but this can likely be attributed to how they collect their data as the rollout of Chrome's user-agent reduction was enabled for 100% of Android devices in May. If you look at the UA string in Chrome on your Android phone, you'll likely see it reported as something like "Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 10; K) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/98.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36." This is done to reduce passive fingerprinting of devices. Sources: gs.statcounter.com/android-versio… reddit.com/r/Android/comm… chromium.org/updates/ua-red… developer.chrome.com/en/docs/privac…

Font dev question: How long should you include workarounds in fonts to account for old software bugs? Windows 10 mishandled variable metrics like underline (MVAR) until May or Nov 2019. Should MVAR still be cut out of new variable fonts, or not?

Food for thought: We accept that it's okay to drop support for Android 5 - released in 2014 for a Nexus 5 flagship, which has 3.3% marketshare today. But we still support IE11 - released in 2013 before the Surface product line existed, which has 0.8% marketshare today. Why?

@_developit We use javascript to collect the info. We have a fallback image collection method too, but that's for a very small percentage now.

3. All of the browser data assumes the User Agent string is a reliable mechanism for determining which browser made a request. StatCounter's collection uses <img>, which can't inspect runtime info for verification, and is easily+widely blocked by tracking prevention & adblocks.
